The official travel thread

Inspired by an off-topic discussion in the language thread I would like to ask you: Where are you going to spend your vacations this year and can you recommend some destinations?

As for me it’s unlikely that I travel this year, but I don’t give up hope (maybe I’ll book a “last-minute trip”).

I think I’ll go to Nice in France soon. They do cheap direct flights from Newcastle, and it’s been a few years since I last visited France. (Just need to get around to booking it…)

Apart from that, i don’t really have any big travel plans this year. So I’m open to suggestions too! I like sightseeing, museums, the coast… and temperatures no higher than the low twenties Centigrade  (Trust me, I know from experience…)

Later I’ll post about some places I’ve been to.

Ooh! I went there last year and loved it. I’ll post some tips (which you’re free to accept or ignore  ) later!

Then try Lübeck in Germany or the island Rügen.

Perfect! Thank you!

I should probably move my Sorrento conversation here, too. In my defence I started off on-topic with a question about language :smirk:

I will go to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a nice town in Germany.

No, wait, that is only a wish…

I’ll spend my summer holydays in Italy, east coast.

But it was very interesting! Really beautiful landscape!

I wouldn’t recommend that in the summer.

Again in Pinarella? (Ah, childhood memories…)

Do you know the italian song dedicated to Sorrento?

No, this time in Tagliata di Cervia (3 km south from Pinarella  )

Ooh, no. I shall make it the soundtrack to my holiday :grinning: :musical_note:

OK, in this thread or we must open another one?

Feel free to post them here. But if you made tons of photos I would recommend to open a new thread.

Torna a Surriento (come back to Sorrento)
This song is sung in a neapolitan slang, so I have provided you with

italian "translation"

Guarda il mare, quanto è bello!
Trasmette così tanto sentimento
Come te, che pensando a qualcuno
se è sveglio, lo fai sognare!

Guarda, guarda, questo giardino
Senti, senti, questi fiori d’arancio
Un profumo così, fino
a dentro il cuore ti entra

E tu dici: “Io parto, addio!”
Allontanandoti da questo cuore
Da questa terra d’amore
Hai abbastanza cuore per non tornare?

Ma non mi lasciare
Non darmi questo tormento
Torna a Sorrento:
Fammi vivere!

Guarda il mare di Sorrento
com è prezioso infondo:
Anche chi ha girato tutto il mondo,
non ha visto niente come questo!

Guarda, attorno queste sirene
Che ti fissano incantate
e ti vogliono tanto bene:
Ti vorrebbero baciare!

E tu dici: “Io parto, addio!”
Allontanandoti da questo cuore
Da questa terra d’amore
Hai abbastanza cuore per non tornare?

Ma non mi lasciare
Non darmi questo tormento
Torna a Sorrento:
Fammi vivere!

English translation

See the sea how beautiful it is,
it inspires all kinds of emotions,
like you with people who care
you make them daydream.

Behold, look at this garden;
sense, smell these orange buds,
there isn’t a perfume so fine,
going straight in your heart

And you say: “I’m leaving, goodbye!”
you’re walking away from this heart,
from this land of love:
do you have the heart not to return?

But don’t leave me,
don’t give me this torment,
come back to Sorrento,
make me live!

See the sea of Surriento,
the buried treasure it has!
Those who traveled all over the world,
haven’t seen anything like it.

Behold these Sirens all around
that look at you enchanted,
and love you so much;
they’d love to kiss you,

And you say: “I’m leaving, goodbye!”
you’re walking away from this heart,
from this land of love:
do you have the heart not to return?

But don’t leave me,
don’t give me this torment,
come back to Sorrento,
make me live!

The following pictures were taken in July 2017:

#2 : on the sand, with some boys playing beach volley

#3 : at the amusement park (Mirabilandia), on the Buffalo Bill Rodeo

#4 : by night, we did a circle on the sand, with lit candles to mark the spot of each one

#5 : on the beach part with deckchairs, umbrellas, cots up

#6 : the Adriatic sea
