Are these books unused?

I was always interested in the books in the library, ever since Jenn said in the blog that there were over 1000 of them. However, even though the Edmund Mansion Mansion library is divided into 12 sections, the internal file LibraryBookText_en.txt divides them into 13. This means that I can’t find any of the books with a Library_ID of 25 in-game. Where are they?

Here’s the list:

  • Diary 2350+, 1650-1680
  • Encyclopaedia of Tlön XI
  • Flight Forward
  • Germany in a Nutshell
  • Go to Hell! It’s Lovely!
  • Gone Home
  • Guide to Clipper Town
  • Guide to Guadalajara
  • High Tea on the Seas
  • Horrors of the Jungle!

I think they are twenty-four, unless you are writing in base twenty-two.

I think they are twenty-five.

Good question. I never noticed that some books might be missing. The following resource seems to support this hypothesis:

That’s correct, I forgot each floor has 8 sections instead of 4.

That source is decent, but not perfect. It’s missing a couple of books and some are in the wrong order. But I did check it before making this post, and I also noticed the books are not on there.

Isn’t there a tool out there that extracts the data files? That way you could check if the missing books are there.

In this case, it’s the other way around. Those books only appear in the data file, LibraryBookText_en.txt, and the user wants to confirm that they are not in the game.

The gamer in me would like to think there’s a secret library room nobody has found yet, but the data files show no evidence of this.
