I’m sure it’s fine for its intended purpose, but penetration testing tools don’t seem that helpful to have preinstalled in general.

There is Kali Linux Light without those pentesting tools.
But Kali is meant to be used by security experts. If you would like to use a desktop OS that is based on Arch, I would recommend Manjaro.
