Like when they had the nerve to call the sequel to Trainspotting T2…
Isn’t his sequel called T1000?
Arggh, so many sequels! First I have to watch 2047 Blade Runner Sequels and now there is 955 Terminator movies I missed? How you even do that Hollywood, chunk out so many sequels, aren´t you busy enough molesting women?!
Perhaps Malcolm Tucker would make the next Star Wars sequel better?
That´s the second british television reply to me within 5 minutes, what´s going on here?
Caribou nibbling the hoops? Blancmange from outerspace? Lemon curry?
Blimey, that’s a sticky wicket then, innit, mate?
Sorry about that. And I deliberately didn’t refer to TFA and TLJ as “The One with the Blackout” and “The One where Nana dies twice”. Which, strangely enough, are both quite appropriate names too.
I watched this and couldn´t help but think of this thread:
(timecode: 22minutes38seconds in case it doesn´t work for you).
Disney remaking The Last Jedi year for year from now on until all individuals are satisfied?
Sounds like a plan

I didn´t know that rewriting the film was a thing until I saw the video. First time I saw someone talking about that was here.
Me neither, but this may have started with Episode 1 already.
Since Ep. I, I’m inured to contents I don’t like in Star Wars movies. Nevertheless I think that TLJ is much better than the prequels and better than TFA. Also I think that the whole discussion about (and anger at) TLJ - not here, but e. g. on Amazon - has hardly been objective. Some freaks criticise the film so emotionally that they bring forward arguments above which not even the original trilogy rises.
Same here. So much for my original idea…
Well I’ll just keep the rewrite to myself, then.
That’s why I didn’t want to add my grain of sand on one of those discussions like IMDB. I prefer a discussion witn the few people over here, who at least have proven a shared interest in the “other Lucasfilm” of the point and click adventures.
Make no mistake, I’d still score TLJ a 6 out of 10. But that puts it in my top 3 of worst Star Wars movies, while TFA ranks in my favourite top 3. So I had high hopes, and it was the first time they weren’t met purely on a story basis. In the prequel trilogy, I wasn’t too impressed with a lot of the acting by the male leading roles (Anakin/Obi-Wan), nor the artificial feel due to obvious CGI (two reasons, I might prefer episode I in that trilogy), but still the story and the expansion of the universe made it worth. For TLJ, I was perhaps expecting a more serious, darker movie, with (real) tormented characters without giving in to the need to break tension by self-ridiculing humor or even without inserting action scenes (which were not helping any story line anyway). Like in any good P&C adventure game: it’s all about starting with a good story, which takes you from point A to B. (Or F to G in this case). At least the ending of MI2 let it up to the player to decide what previously happened. Not so much the case with TLJ.
Finally, I would also try and make minimal changes to the script. Adding a few lines or flashbacks that would explain things/characters rather than dismissing them.
I understand your points and I had hoped for a darker and more serious movie, too. I agree that cutting some of the jokes would have helped in this regard. Fortunately, I was warned, since Rian Johnson had told in advance that TLJ wouldn’t be intended as a dark movie.
Much as I liked it, the movie is not perfect indeed.
The cliffhanger from the ending of TFA featuring Luke, which gets continued in TLJ, was quite funny, but it was not typical in a Star Wars movie. On the other hand, I think Johnson made the best of this scene and it is suitable to Luke’s mood. I just wonder if this cliffhanger will still work in TFA, if you have seen TLJ already. There is a similar issue with the flat iron scene: The joke might be funny once only. Some other jokes were just disadvantageous for the atmosphere - but we have to keep in mind that the Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks have been as well, for instance.
By the way, does anyone know who has paid the people on the island, who have protected and conserved the relics of the Jedi over all those years, as Luke explains in the movie? Have they done this life-task just for free?
Moreover, the story line of Finn and Rose is not very conducive to the main story. After all, it only concludes the story of Phasma and introduces the boy from the very end, who is kind of a symbol for the “spark” ignited by Luke. I’m pretty sure that Disney have some plans with this boy. Maybe Rian Johnson’s own trilogy, which has been announced, is going to deal with him as the next hero in the Star Wars universe.
Until then, this ending feels a bit strange in a SW movie. It’s a matter of taste. Maybe they tried too hard to make it feel like a classic fairy tale. But, I tolerate it.
Furthermore, I read that they cut out an extensive scene with Finn and Rose sneaking in a star destroyer. Maybe it was a wrong decision to cut this out.
When I think of the lack of Snoke’s background, it comes to my mind that the emperor didn’t have one either, until the prequels were shot.
All in all, I would rate it with 8.5 out of 10, but they still have to answer some unanswered questions. Hopefully, they will do this in EP. 9.
That’s my guess too. But I have to admit I didn’t even notice him using the force tonpick up the broom.
And here it finally is, the Last Jedi review we´ve all been waiting for:
TL;DR
Just watch the 20 seconds at 38:20
(And then watch the whole thing)
(Oh, I feel even worse about that film now)
No watch the whole thing you fffffffffffffucks!
I admit except I few things I alredy thought when watching it I probably enjoyed it more when watching it mostly for the contrast to the miserable and pointless Rogue One.
But as with all their other Star Wars Reviews I find myself agreeing with everything they point out.
