The if competition has started: all the games can be played here:

Unfortunately Robin Johnson did not finish his Pirate game in time.
Itās suprising to me that all the entries are either parser-based or choice-based. No point & click. Robin seems to be the only text adventure author that has a point&click engine. I need to consider releasing my own engine to the publicā¦
Iām resurrecting this appropriate discussion because the following marvel must be shared.
Many people are going bananas for this book, currently on Kickstarter:
50 Years of Text Games: From Oregon Trail to A.I. Dungeon
āA definitive book about the first half-century of interactive fiction.ā
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/aaronareed/50-years-of-text-games
The nice thing for me is that it doesnāt cover only IF games but many types of textual games, including modern textual games like ā80 Daysā, which I loved.
I donāt know if anyone has said it before me, but āThe Lurking Horrorā is awesome! however, I never managed to find the PC password in the game but I became very interested in text-adventure games after TWP.
Thanks for sharing⦠if it includes a map for Zork then itās worth it for me. Going on my wishlist for sure.
Iām very happy for their final kickstarter result:
It shows that there are many people who are still involved in that kind of game mechanic or who are simply enamored enough to invest in such products.
I missed backing for the Kickstarter, but Iām deciding now to go in for the preorder of the physical book. I wanted to read this guys blog writing and decide first if I like his writing style. But then again, the value of having a hardcover book of this type just sitting on my bookshelf is almost enough to push me over the edge on itās own.
By the way, this Text Adventure Kickstarter Andromeda Acolytes has only a few hours left. I decided to back, considering the history of the developer, and the quality of the demo. I donāt know if it can rival Thaumistry or not, we shall seeā¦
Lovely! Thinking of backing it as well. I thoroughly enjoyed Thaumistry (thanks you @besmaller for the recommendation!, itās a hidden gem).
@Pouyan - regarding your comment above about āThe Lurking Horrorā (yes, I know, it was a while ago) - did you really never get past the PC password? If not, you are definitely missing out on the best parts of that game. (you can find it in the PDF documentation available many places on the web). Also, I recommend playing with the sound enabled - though itās a bit tricky to set up, it really adds the experience. Iād have to go back through my notes to see which z-machine interpreter I needed to use and how to set it up.
(Sorry for the late reply) unfortunately yes I never found the PC password, but I just found out that āThe Lurking Horrorā is playable on ScummVM and I will finish the game soon.
I didnāt know that about Lurking Horror and ScummVM! Iāll have to check that out. Sounds like a fun project for this weekend.
ScummVM supports a lot of adventure games. Not only the Infocom adventures, but also the ones from Magnetic Scrolls and several role-playing games like Ultima IV:
Not the Legend adventures, right?
Right. But there is/was some initial work (on the later games):

GOG ships DOSBox with the games.
