Kickstarter - sign language-based retro adventure game

Hi everyone! I hope all of you are doing well. I have been playing games, especially retro adventure games, since I was 3 years old. I am also a female deaf gamer and programmer. I love most retro adventure games including Thimbleweed.

So far I haven’t found an entertaining point and click game with some of sign language integrated as the the whole and main part. There is no need to learn language inside a game… I’ve searched and googled and it seems the most sign language-based games are some hand alphabets or mostly educational instead of entertainment where adventure players can experience a new kind of game environment and can at the same time enjoy and be entertained.

Please back up my Kickstarter campaign that aims at funding sign language animations in pixelart that are most costly of all parts of this game development. I humbly believe it deserves a thread by itself <3

Please follow the project, spread the word, anything that can help me complete my humbly unique vision! I will be forever grateful! <3

Does the archival pyramid option have a specific kind of in-game context in mind?

Hi Frenzie, thanks for the question.

Some numbers or words in the archival option will be tied to some puzzles or specific game elements in the game. I plan to ask backers to get their consent. If they consent, I’ll ask them if they want to solve it by themselves as a surprise or if they want me to give them a hint or description. It all depends on the total funds. The more funds, the more puzzles there will be.

This seems very cool. I’m curious, what’s the benefit of sign language over subtitles? Is sign language easier to sort of intake while viewing a scene, like voice is easier to absorb than text which forces you to focus more? Or is it that a sign language actor can impart something beyond text the same way a voice actor can?

Hi bongobrain  Thanks for the questions. There is no benefit over or under, just added new total game experience. SL and text are equally important. It depends on players if sign language is easier to intake or not, since it is very individual as it is for people perceiving voices where they think voices are easy to understand or not or somewhere in the middle.

It will also be some sign language-based puzzles, so it might be a worth to pay attention to some signs at some specific scenes.

It is also a bonus that people can actually learn some signs from the game, but it is not a pure educational game, but an entertaining game which I hope most players can enjoy
