Leisure Suit Larry - Wet Dreams Don't Dry

If Al Lowe wasn’t involved or at least asked to be involved, I’ll have nothing to do with the game. It’s disrespectful.

A Larry game without Al Lowe (also Josh Mandel) involved would be very sad.

But on the other hand I have played games with Monkey Island in the title after MI2 so I’m going to hell anyway

It seems from the video interview posted above that there have been Larry games (or derivatives) before that didn’t involve Al Lowe at all.
His take on that is quite funny: “It’s like receiving a video letter from the guys who kidnapped your son. You’re happy to see he’s still alive, but also WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO HIM?”

The first Leisure Suit Larry game is a remake of Chuck Benton’s text adventure “Softporn Adventure” - the layout and puzzles of the game are the same.
So I don’t know if they need to consult with Al Lowe if he already took it from somewhere else.

I can’t say I am impressed by the overall mood of the graphics style. It is polished, the detail is there, but somehow the end result is not compelling to me.

I only have one question about this game: will I die if I pick up the wrong item or open the wrong door?

or ask the wrong question?

Most definitely!

Is this a reason for you to not buy the game or to buy it immediately?

There was a picture of that meeting, look:

I would love to buy it but I’m afraid I would die if I do.

"Is Al Lowe involved?

Short answer: no, he isn’t. He’s officially retired.

So, Ron Gilbert was right.

But this doesn’t exclude the possibility that they may have approached him to ask early on.

I must say I’m rather sceptical regarding this game. There is a thin line between sexual humor and ickyness, and it takes a lot of skill to make sexual humor work. From the official texts and the teaser video, I’m not sure the new team is up to the task.

And then, of course, there is Al Lowe. I remember back when Magna Cum Laude came out and how insulted he was at not having been involved. When he did the Kickstarter to remake the first part, the aim was to earn enough money to produce a real eighth part. I backed and followed the Kickstarter, and my impression was that even though Al Lowe decided to retire from active development afterwards, he was still emotionally attached to Larry. So it would have been common decency to approach him beforehand. If not as an active team member, then at least in an advisory function. But judging from the game’s FAQ, they didn’t even do that.

You know the way the description reads this could be a real interesting Austin Powers like fish out of water scenario where 80s party swinging Larry gets in trouble for harrasment and sexist speech.
