Me too. The last “Secret Files” and “Lost Horizon” games had a weaker story.

Still Joking could be cool
A new game in the “Broken Sword” series, one of my favorites, has been announced.
Here’s an article on Polygon that gives some details:
… and here is an interview in which Charles Cecil explains how AI was used to remaster the first game in the series, also announced as a work in progress:
Reforged? Didn’t I already buy “remastered” a decade ago?
Edit: Director’s Cut, rather.
Thought that too.
But this time they are going for 4K graphics. I need a new display…

“Morriton Manor Stories: Nordic Whispers” looks interesting too. It’s from the developer that made “Unforseen Incidents”. I’m curious how the RPG elements are working and how much adventure it will be:
Not quite sure if the theme is to my liking, but I really like the art style of Phoenix Springs!
Where does it end, though?
Raise your hand if you would have preferred it this way.

This hadn’t occurred to me before, but if Ron had done the same plot (going back to Melee and Monkey Island), but used the actual art from MI1, then the whole rest of the game would have to be in that MI1 style to be consistent. That may have felt like they were re-using too much of the old art for a new game, if it was like 50% MI1 art.
I guess it could have been redone in a different style, but still keeping the classic pixel-art approach, and all been redrawn in a MI2 style for instance.
Just trying to imagine that, I can’t tell if it would have worked or not.
That was my feeling with the Demake trailer; if I’d have paid money for the experience and it went on for more than a screen or two, I would have been disappointed. Seeing the locations re-imagined was neat, but seeing them exactly as they were 30 years ago … ? For me, I think that would have only worked if the game started differently, and then at some point it drops you into one or maybe two of the iconic locations. That might have been powerful. But usually, if I play a new game, I want to see new stuff.
Before I watched the trailer, my expectation was to see pixel art that kept the general style of RtMI intact, not near exact copies of MI1 locations. If I wanted to see those, I’d replay MI1.
I remember some reviews criticising RtMI for how it begins by basically just speed-running MI1 anyway, even with new art…
I’m trying to think if there are any classic PnCs that revisit an older game’s location successfully, Space Quest did it a bit for SQ4, in a clever way with their time-travel thing.
I’d still love to play the demake when they finish it, I like how they did LeChuck’s ship.
