welcome @Papikit!
I have to say… I envy you!
I wish I were in that sweet period of the 1st playthrough. Like you did, I also took my time, savored every pixel and took it veeeery slow.

Sure! Only slower than planned, but the project is going on.
The most difficult part is to record a lot of people living in different regions/locations, in a reasonable amount of time.
Then, some actors which started to record their lines, decided not to collaborate with the project anymore, so we had to choose other actors.
38 characters for almost 30 different people to record.
Of course, Ron did it in 1 month, paying the actors to work 8 hours per day.
Anyway, if nobody is in a hurry, we are free and willing to complete the project compatibly with our life’s priorities.
Trust me… it might take some getting used to, but once you reach the second act, you’ll be hooked. It is one of my favourites too. Hands down the best 3D adventure I ever played.
I’d recommend you to play it with a friend on the forum here who hasn’t played it either or wants to replay, so you can give each other gentle hints rather than using a walkthrough (ugh) or even UHS.
Hey! You both haven’t played Grim yet…
What a coincidence!
Oh, and welcome to the forum @Papikit.
Hope you’ll stick around in our unofficial waiting room for Ron/Gary/David’s next adventure game.
Create a new thread and play together!
I very much like this definition of the thimbleweed park forum… spot on
I’ve only been semi-avoiding it because I don’t want there to be no unplayed LucasArts adventures left. They’re not making any new ones, besides TWP I suppose.
Complete with uncomfortable chairs, coin-operated coffee machine and 3 year old magazines
Well I do still have the game on my iPad and I’ve got a holiday coming up so maybe I should try again.
I didn’t get very far, I remember I kept getting balloon animals and not knowing what to do with them!
Yes I’ve decided I will try again. Will keep you posted!
Also I have read the threads on this forum but do we think Ron will make another game of this calibre. I wish i was rich and could just bankroll him!!
I’m looking forward to introducing my son to these games, he’s only 2 but I can’t wait to do them all with him.
Even though my son was only 8 or 9 at the time, I let him play TWP with me. It was great to share a game we both loved!
Ron did say on his blog he’s working on a top-down style RPG, but it seems private at the moment. I think after all the work Ron did with the podcasts/backer rewards for the last game, his next game won’t be on kickstarter.
@Sushi what is UHS? sorry.
@yrface I think playing these games and watching my son (hopefully) loving them and getting frustrated when he us stuck will make me so happy!! I don’t think we would play the really old ones like maniac mansion because I don’t find the look exciting these days. Probably play the classics that have been remastered and then TWP.
Well if he’s got the backing or money happy days, but I would chip in if it was a Kickstarter.
You may notice I’ve learned how to @, I did say I wasn’t very computery.
We played Maniac and also Zak McKracken together, too. He did surprisingly well for a kid.
The retro art style doesn’t bother me, I love the nostalgia factor as it reminds me of good times growing up.
I’ll have to try the SE editions at some point, too.
It’s a website that’s a bit like the built-in phone hints in TWP.
That’s very cool. I hadn’t heard of UHS before. Bookmarked!
Well, they’re great! Even though just navigating to the part you need a hint for might be slightly spoilerish.
@Papikit, what he said!
Let him be the judge of that! My 7 year old prefers to play all the EGA versions over the VGA of the first games (MM, Zak and Loom).
And I didn’t pressure him into it - moreover since I spent a lot of time into making a fan translation of the VGA FM-towns version of Loom for him and still he prefers the EGA one (also translated by the way)
Well, it’s now a website. Back in the 90s I bought the UHS on a CD. You had to use a special MS-DOS program to read the hints (seems they still offering the reader program in the “older versions” section).

Oooooooh.
List of hint files available from the Universal Hint System. The Universal Hint System gives you only the hints that you need to solve hundreds of computer games.
Where do you download the required files though?
