Obscure classics

I knew the Simulmondo’s boss: Francesco Carlà.
It was one of the most important italian software houses back then.

I liked Simulgolf.

Me too!! It was one of my favourites!

Those backgrounds look great, they should have made adventure games!

Wait, did he just punch the rocks? Why didn’t think Indy of it!

Wow. I had Shadow of the Beast. I believe it was on one of Sega’s early consoles.

I think this was rereleased on iOSheader

Yes, but hardly obscure…

Why do you think Ambermoon is obscure?

Yes, also for me. The best RPG I have ever played on the Amiga.
I still own the original box which I bought around 1994. All the physical items in the box (and also the box itself) was nice designed, 9 floppy disk, color map, runes table and manual.
The game can still be downloaded on the official Ambermoon website for free.

Flunky - a great obscure adventure title by Don Priestley for the ZX Spectrum (1987)

It follows the misadventures of a menial servant, at Buckingham Palace.

Oh, I played some games from Simulmondo!

I remember in particular the Diabolik series (there were others with Simulman or Dylan Dog as protagonists)

They were hybrid games. Often protagonists came from comics, they have elements both from platform and point and click adventures. They were also the first non-pirated games I bought, mostly because I can afford it (probably due to the game system which was almost the same with a few changes and enhancements troughout the series)! They come out as monthly magazines, they were called “Il giallo interattivo” (The interactive yellow story).

Episode 8 “Un piano perfetto” (A perfect plan)

(1993 - Dos, Workbench for Amiga 500)

@Nor_Treblig How did you manage to play Time Runners? Was it translated in German?

Diabolik and Time Runners are obviously based on the same engine!

And yes, it was translated to German, it may have been actually multi-language (I think there was a language selection at start or install; maybe I will look it up when I have time).

This game is so obscure that it’s not even listed at Mobygames!

Hey, that actually is that same Diabolik that was on one episode of Mystery Science Theater3000!

I watched a video about Simulmondo (unfortunately it is not translated) where the author says that after the national success of productions like Diabolik and Dylan Dog, the following project Time Runners was localized in many european languages. That’s nice!
Mobygames only says that there’s a “12-game Diabolik series”.

Unfortunately I don’t know the series you mentioned, but yes, there’s only one Diabolik! Eheh… I heard that Sky and Cattleya some years ago were working on a TV series but the project is now suspended.

Wow, they’re watching the 1968 movie Diabolik by Mario Bava. There’s Michel Piccoli in the role of Ginko! Music by Ennio Morricone. That’s totally new to me, thanks! You Milan have an impressive knowledge in pop culture!

He does indeed. I discovered “Mystery Science Theater3000” thanks to this forum and to him.

Thanks! That´s about it, though… :man_shrugging:

There was a game, in the early days of the glorious Commodore 64, which is still obscure to me.
Forbidden Forest:

It had a disturbing music, both during the gameplay, or when the character died.

I was able to reach the level with The Reaper (level 5, I think).
Which was the goal of that game? It seemed a neverending game…

Mainly because it only ever sold in Germany while the Amiga had any relevance. So it’s likely pretty unknown to the international audience frequenting this place,

I thought I did, too. But last time I took a look at my old games, I saw no trace of it. Can’t really remember throwing it out either (I held on to pretty much all of my Amiga games … and the Amiga too), so hopefully there’s another box of games somewhere I did not look.

and on Android as well…
