Ron declares he is working on a new Monkey Island

Based on the Thimbleweed Park blog, it looked like they had the voice acting wrapped around January 2017 and then the game was released March 30th 2017…
So yeah, it came out pretty soon after the voice acting was done…

I think it’s reasonably likely that the game will release in July, or around then.

I just realized that TWP was just a laboratory for RMI. Not (just) technically, but (also) storywise. I’m thinking how the endings of MI2 and TWP share same things. And I wonder if this a gateway to tie CMI, EMI and TMI to Ron’s MI-universe.

I just realized I may not survive another META ending… :grimacing:

If I have to go through that one more time, I might become a terrorist.

I don’t think it will happen, because those games are not Ron’s.

We are talking about a universe here. Ron is a humble guy, albeit being a god.
He brought Murray onboard, after all.

It’s only been a few days since Return to Monkey Island was announced and I am already pathologically impatient to play the damn thing. Please hurry up and make the game, Ron. Just knowing that it currently exists in some form and that I can’t play it is killing me. KILLING ME, I tell’s ya!

Just kidding (sorta). I really cannae hardly wait to play the game though. This is the single biggest announcement in the entire history of adventure gaming (no joke).

Same here. I cannot wait to immerse in it and spend a looooooooong time!

Yes, it’s only been four days… It’s crazy. I can’t wait!

My idea on “CMI will stay canon” is that LeChuck creates parallel timelines with some voodoo spell. In one of these, Elaine is actually gonna marry Guybrush and the rest is history.

Since Back To The Future, it’s the same old thing.

My idea on “CMI will stay canon” is halfway through Return to Monkey Island, Guybrush falls asleep and “dreams” Curse, Escape, and Tales.
Then he wakes up and says he had some weird dreams with Murray in them.

Isn’t Lucasfilm Games calling the shots though? At least, Adventure Gamers insider info tells so.

I was looking at some of the games LucasFilm Games have published. Indiana Jones™: The Pinball Adventure was announced on 16.12.2021 and released on 10.3.2022. So, it took ~4 months from the announcement to the release.

On the other hand, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was announced at E3 2019 and it was just released :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Maybe it will be released on October 15th (even if this date is a mith like Big Whoop – Ron stated there are no clues that this is the date MI was first released).

It will be released “soonish”, I guess, just like TWP.

According to the TWP dev blog, the release date of TWP was announced only a month before the release itself, apparently because the team wanted to be sure they would definitely make it. On the other hand, Disney/LFG and Devolver are aboard as well, so it may be entirely different this time.

Is the voice acting really done already? Are there sources?
The voice acting for Murray in the teaser trailer would be no evidence for that, in my opinion. I’m not sure, but didn’t Ron arrange a short preliminary recording session for TWP, in order to have some voice acts for the TWP trailers in advance?

I am afraid it will take a pretty long while until we even get to know the release date for RMI.
I understand that, but it’s hard, of course. The actual marketing campaign hasn’t even started yet, seeing that there is “only” the teaser trailer. I hope there will be some interviews, more details and insights very soon - or at least some merchandizing.

Well, the best way to distract yourself from your impatience might be to play some SCUMM games or TWP.
Playing MI 1 & 2 again is an obligatory preparation for RMI anyway.

On April 4th, Dominic Armato said on twitter -
“I am literally in the studio working on the game RIGHT NOW”

And yesterday Ron said -
“Just got done recording the amazing @yakkopinky doing the Lookout for #ReturnToMonkeyIsland.”

I think they normally record voice acting all within a small timeframe, so should be done soon, as they’ve been doing it since at least the 4th…

I don’t know if the voice recording sessions are done and dusted as of yet, but we do certainly know that the voice recordings for the likes of Dominic Armato, Alexandra Boyd and Rob Paulsen have all taken place within the past week, so either the voice recordings are finished or are very close to being so.

This game will release sooner, rather than later for sure. My guess would be either June or July of this year.

I think it takes a couple of weeks to go through every line, select the best take (although Ron might be in the studio to do that “live”), trim it - name it to the correct clip and hook up to the game cue. And then do a bunch of testing. You wouldn’t want the wrong voice clip to play over some text.
Depends on the pipeline they set up and how many people they have for this in comparison to TWP. IIRC, it took a couple of months on TWP:
Between Thimbleweed Park Blog- Tracking Talkies
and
Thimbleweed Park Blog- Text Lock

Of course we don’t know if they’re in the studio doing the pickups or the main recording sessions (Honestly… I assume the latter)
So I expect a release this year. Which is December 31st, as I tell my boss every time.
Anything sooner is just a bonus!

Guys, I just had an epiphany… I know how RTMI is going to start.
The game is called RETURN to Monkey Island. So it will start with guybrush and his brother living in the real world. Then something happens, and guybrush decides to return to the Monkey Island world to fix it. Like in the Robin Williams/Peter pan movie.
Maybe his brother Chuckie has made some trouble that forces Guybrush to go back…

I actually thought about it. It would be like « Return to Neverland », I think it makes sense.
I also see that has a reference to « Return to Twin Peaks ».
Anyway… I know I might be in the minority here, but I actually love the meta stuff, when it’s well done.
I’m a big fan of Monkey 2’s ending, so I would be excited to see more of this craziness.
