Ron declares he is working on a new Monkey Island

I understand your feelings. Me, all I ask from the art is that it doesn’t draw me out of the game. Apart from that, I’m pretty tolerant.

Also, I think I like this one more than Curse. (and of course more than Escape and tales).

It’s not a style that works very well with me and I can understand that “disconnection”.

Still, I understand that I’ve grown up since those old games and my personal preferences have also evolved.

This “Return to Monkey Island” is probably an attempt to attract a younger audience, which makes its cartoony art style quite a good choice, in my opinion.

The faces are deformed but can become expressive when needed:

I’m more skeptical of backgrounds (that island in daylight seemed quite fake) than of characters.

THANKS!

I watched the trailer with German subtitles. Like in other MI games “root beer” is translated as “Malzbier” (which is wrong, but IMHO great). So the translator is aware of the old games - I hope.

The art style works very well with me!

Yes, I really like it. It fits to the world of Monkey Island and looks modern. In my opinion it was the right decision.

I don’t agree with you here. A lot of grown ups like these graphics and these styles.

I’m glad for that!

I agree, but I didn’t say that it wouldn’t work well with adults. I said that choosing it might have been related to the fact that, in my opinion, it works even better with younger people.

I like the art, though it seems kinda busy with everything moving… that might be the effect of the trailer moving between shots so fast though.

Guybrush’s face is interesting.

I feel you. I can’t even process what’s happening.
This is crazy.
I love the art style and animation.
And the Secret is teased in the trailer.
It will be awesome!
I’m surprised that LeChuck is still a zombie. It’s a bit disappointing… but also exciting to me, since zombie LeChuck is my favorite LeChuck.

we didn’t see Toothrot?

Those curtains aren’t animated!

Why did Guybrush’s nose have to be red?

I think the trailer looks great and I’m excited about the game again. The motion definitely helps create focal points among all those disorganized compositions. It’s not nearly as asthetically pleasing as any random still from a Pixar movie, but it works.

I’ve been fine with the art style in what we’ve seen but I didn’t like it much here. Lots of parts stood out to me as not looking nice when things were moving, especially the sword fight around :47 in.

I’m still super excited for the game but my current feeling on the look is “it is what it is, I guess”

Yeah, I hear you, that paper cutout puppet style of animation feels a little cheap in spots. But I think it the sheer quantity of things in motion makes up for it.

The summary on the website says:

“It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck.“

So I guess that the amusement park part, in the beginning, will only be a flashback.

Talking to Stan on the official website is practically a mini-adventure!

I laughed at he jab at NFTs.

How many characters do you recognize in the trailer, excluding those depicted in the photo album?

Here’s a first list:

Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck, Carla (I assume), Wally, Otis, Stan, Cobb, the Lookout, the SCUMM Bar cook, Murray and the voodoo lady Hernando.

Do you recognize more?

By the way, the last pages in the photo album show events related to the new game, so I guess that everything might be presented as a giant flashback?

It took three nanoseconds for the comments in the new blog post to become political: :joy:

I may be very excited now, but I REALLY love the characters’ faces, I also became more interested in the game’s art style, Guybrush’s face was exactly what I imagined.

After watching the trailer, I think this nose would have been better than the one Guybrush is having

Very excited nonetheless!

I think I saw 3 important looking pirates, but it could very well be 3 other pirates.

I searched for a pirate with a beard and an eye patch and couldn’t find anybody matching this description, but maybe Ron decided to modify their aspect.
