Ron declares he is working on a new Monkey Island

Can you reach his blog?

nope, it’s offline.

I hope that:

  • He didn’t rage-delete the server itself
  • Nobody is attacking the website in some way (e.g. DOSS)

Same with http://thimbleweedpark.com/
(It’s offline too)

I didn’t read the comments/rants on the blog this time. I only skimmed them. What was there that was so nasty?

The usual stuff. “We Are The Truth™”, trolls, personal attacks, people wishing bad things to Ron, Godwin’s Law… you name it.

The situation was hot enough to suggest me to take a snapshot of it, for posterity: :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks, I’ll have a look

(But I think the worst comments had already been deleted by Ron)

Some early comments were already deleted, but you can find some nasty stuff in the second half, like “You are an abhorrent and miserable human being”, which reminds me of insult swordfighting.

Amazing

I’m fascinated by these behaviors, from both a social and a psychological point of view.

The future Phd theses predicted by Noah should also contain a section on how people reacted to the art style of this game.

“Blah blah this art style is SJW how dare you SJWs attack all that is good and holy such as explicit racism and sexism through your SJW games.”

(I had no idea MI had such power.)

That server is unresponsive, it doesn’t even ping back.

All Ron’s domains on that server are affected:

grumpygamer.com
terribletoybox.com
thimbleweedpark.com
rongilbert.com
dinky.help

The only reason why we can still talk in this forum is because forums.thimbleweedpark.com is hosted on a different web server (it’s owned by Discourse).

Next, you told her: “Go out and chop that wood.”

That’s strange.
OK to disable comments, but to turn off 5 websites?

I don’t think that Ron did this (intentionally, at least).

An entire server that doesn’t even reply to pings makes me think of some technical issue.

Ron must have fallen victim of the retro fascists!

I saw a screenshot of some comments on Ron’s blog and I totally agree with his decision.

That isn’t criticism.

I hope that Devolver Digital will invest some time to seriously handle this situation, because in my opinion both the civil negative opinions and the visceral abusive reactions of some people are enough substantial to have an effect on sales and on the developers’ mood.

It seems also that political and ideological topics are already playing a role, which will not make the social scenario any easier to handle.

Part of my concerns are for sure a consequence of my fears, but they are also concerns based on some numbers, which show that the appreciation has decreased when compared to the April announcement.

I don’t know much about game development, but if it is even remotely related to how companies work, some preemptive damage control measures might be necessary.

I’m so sad to observe all this situation…

Though it might galvanize some people to buy it, to prove that the haters won’t win, that kind of thing.

Also lots of people are talking about the game because of this, it’s been trending again on Twitter… and you know “no such thing as bad publicity”, etc.
