Seguso's Adventure Game Thread

Hmhmmmmm…
I approve the switch to cartoon style.
But if it seems easier for you, it is not.
Because you have to develop your own style, ad it should match the backgrounds and the mood.
I think the “familyguish” style you adopted for the adults (especially the priest) is quite striking, both with the backgrounds and with the childish and naive style of the two girls.
I’d try to look for a more original style. Just my unasked opinion.

Sorry to disappoint you both, but I find the original faces, polished or not, way way better than this cartoon version, which I find ugly and totally not fitting the whole style. Keep the originals, you won’t regret it.

Thank you guys, I see the points of both of you. I’ll try to make something between cartoon and realistic… For example, for Poirot, I didn’t copy the family guy style. I copied a photograph, but with the round eyes. I might try to do something like that for all characters. Round eyes (like family guy / simpsons / rick and morty etc) but more realistic features…

Or how about this? realistic but drawn from scratch, and slightly deformed?

Nice, and more fitting in my opinion.

I agree, but the contrast with the little girls is more striking… Because of the lack or round eyes. I thought I had solved this problem with the cartoon style. (Which also seemed to me to fit the characters well, tbh)

I don’t know. The eyes of the girls are round, but have no eyelids and very simple eyebrows. This makes them look different from the Family guys eyes, to me.

Well anyway …the reason why the cartoon style exists is that it makes animations (or repeated drawings) affordable… but since I don’t have animations, and I only need to draw the Faces once or twice, I think I have to go with the realistic style… Just because I can, so to speak…

I don’t think it as a flaw, but as a distinctive feature, that I like.
The childhood drawing style for the children protagonists and their childness, the realistic style for the strange adult world and the monsters.
For the little I know about the story… It’s little girl in monster-land, after all.

The reduced contrast somehow makes it clash much more. When it’s totally different it’s easy to accept that there’s these two cartoon girls, but having the two total cartoons in between a different style of cartoons looks worse to me.

interesting… I didn’t have this impression. But I should say that I am testing the dialogs these days. And, in dialogs, you have constant switches between a girl’s face and an adult face. And I started being annoyed by the difference in style. Just by looknig at the backgrounds, you guys can’t have this impression.

I guess I will try the realistic-but-hand-drawn style for more characters and test it for a while…
and I will also try to draw Olivia and Camilla in realistic style… it’s harder for females, maybe impossible with two colors, but with 4 colours (as in Dracula above) it might work.

And I think that’s better.

In Bing, a cartoon for toddlers that my daughters used to love, the adults have a completely different look than children, and everyone is fine with that.

See that green, orange and blue puppet-looking things? Those are supposed to be the adults :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok guys, you convinced me… I’ll draw other realistic faces (polished this time) and I’ll post them
Thanks

While I can respect any choice you’ll make, let me give you one argument in favour of each:

  • cartoon style matches better with the girls
  • original style was funnier (as you could recognise famous people in them)
