uhm, i’m stuck here.

  1. You know that Van Helsing is staying in the tavern (ā€œalloggia quiā€).

  2. Van Helsing told you that he knows how to enter Dracula’s castle, but the method is so complicated that he cannot remember it by heart (a memoria).

What follows?

Thanks for the heads-up, mate! But this message of yours makes me feel even dumber than the in-game insults do :joy:

Just my duty, good man.

goddamnit guys… music from a professional is going to cost me 320-480 $ per minute. And I don’t think I’ll be able to do with less than 10 minutes, and this just for the first half of the game.

If I’m going to spend that much money on this, I also need to make them back. And this means I’ll have to change the UI drastically, so as to make it very intuitive, kind of like Darkside Detective. Allow to click on the graphics and so on. I can still offer the current UI as optional, but clearly this can’t be the only option, if I’m risking money.

Don’t use music from a professional.
Is it a real must?

I believe that the current interface is unique, your game is unique. If you offer another interface Ć  la darkside detective, it won’t be Seguso’ s original game anymore.

I guess so… because if music isn’t good, it does not build memories…

I see. For that price, did you call Michael Land or Matthew Alan Kane?

Thanks man.

To save the originality, I think I can remodel everything so that you only do 1) one click on the objective; 2) one click on the graphics (or in the inv)

everything is two clicks, one on the graphics, another on the objective.

Basically I would remove the final part, where I ask you to explain the link between the objective and the object…

that would be intuitive enough I think…

not at all… I don’t imagine how much they charge

Ok… the new interface is designed. You will be able to play by combining two objects, where possible. Except for those puzzles (and they are the majority) that are not about combinations of objects. For these puzzles, you will need to choose one object and one objective. Or to say something at the right time. I hope the new interface is ready in 1 week…

Given that you’re making a change to the interface, should I test part 1 of your game after you’ve done that?

My internet is finally back! :raised_hands:

wow! Congrats!

Well, I don’t know! It’s up to you. Maybe you could try with this interface, and if you happen not to like it, or believe you’d have more fun by clicking directly on the graphics and combining objects (where possible), just wait one week.

The new UI is going to look something like this:

in the bottom bar, you have icons for : walk, look, talk. then one icon for each inventory object. And finally, two icons: one is the noteboook with your objectives, one for the options.

To use an object, you will just click on it. More precisely:

If you hover your mouse on a room object: depending on the object type, you will see one of these:

  1. pickup object; (if it’s a pickable object)

  2. use object for; (if it’s an unmovable object, or a character. This will popup the objectives list, clickable)

  3. look at object (if it’s unusable directly, but only usable as a target – that is, as the second object of a combination)

if, on the other hand, you hover the mouse on an inventory object, you will see, depending on the type of object:

  1. use object with (and you will have to click on a room object as target)

  2. use object for (and you will have to click an objective)

  3. use object (this will use the object in the current room. e.g. play the horn in monkey2.)

I think I’ll try it with the current interface. Send the link my way!

I haven’t read the whole thread in detail because I would like to play the game without any spoilers.

So maybe you have explained it already, but why are you doing this? Your interface is unique so why are you destroying this?

rest assured I’m not spoiling my own game… above I’ve only written a couple of things that the game itself tells you

Well, first of all, I am not destroying all of it, because even the new interface will be innovative. In fact, not all puzzles in the game can be expressed as object combinations. Those that can’t be expressed will still ask you to combine an object with an objective. This is innovative to my knowledge. What I’ve dropped is the final part of this interface, that asked you to explain WHY the object allows you to achieve the objective.

So, to answer the ā€œwhy are you doing thisā€: basically if I’m going to spend 5-10,000 euros on the music, I need to be sure to recover them… previously I was thinking ā€œwho cares if people don’t like the game, I’ll do what I think is good, not what people likeā€. But if I’m risking money I can’t do that…

So, you are going to sell your game? But is this possible with the (stolen) backgrounds?

And have you thought of using free music? Do you really need music? (Think about players in a train who can’t listen to it anyway.)

Your interface is unique. And even if some people won’t like it, it would be a little bit sad if you would change it in that drastic way.

Why not finishing the game, then gather some feedback and create a new revised version of it for the masses?
