Seguso's Adventure Game Thread

@Someone As an aside, it reminds me a little bit of something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spellcasting_101_interface.png

Well, the backgrounds have been repainted! I don’t expect people to hassle me for tracing those lines … do you? And if they do, I can quickly replace a background.

But the old interface will stay as an option…

I’m very picky about what kind of music I like… I want a Monkey Island style soundtrack.

What I can do is try to create some on my own, first. (as I can’t harass Guga too much )

BTW, considering you still haven’t solved a puzzle, I’m surprised to hear you say that

I like how the interface looks like, but I’m not sure about removing the ā€œwhyā€ part. I feel like it allows trying everything with everything.

You could do MI2 style, making it the easy option

As for the music: we can try again  it went fine for the intro :stuck_out_tongue: the prices are quite high. I could ask a colleague of mine who is a conservatory laureate how much does he want.

What I’d suggest is lowering the number of locations with different themes, merging them. Inside the castle, inside the tavern, the town (plaza and arab quartier), sea/harbour, forest… it’s way less, but still gives to the world its identity

I’m a big fan of Eric the Unready. It’s like my fourth best game , after monkey2, monkey1, indy4 and thimbleweed.

Me too.

Ah, Ok.

Like this?

Warning: This site has several licenses. You have to pay for the song I linked above, but it is cheap. But you’ll find a lot of good and free music title in the internet. Feel free to search ā€œcaribbeanā€ on the site to find more MI-examples and other words that are fitting your game.

Oh, I will.

But I played a little bit around with your interface.

That’s certainly true… it’s now a brute-forceable UI.

But at least it allows me to express some of the puzzles, which I couldn’t see how to express with scumm or other… like the fountain puzzle, or the chest puzzle, or the mermaid puzzle, or the closet puzzle. (btw, if you have any idea how to express them with a normal interface , let me know)

Yes, I was planning a screen where you choose that, like monkey2.

Well, ok, thanks  But first I want ot put together all the rooms with ripped off music. So I have an exact idea of how many different tracks I need, and the length of each.

Right. When I put together the demo, I will try to use as few tracks as possible, sharing them where possible.

Um … yeah :grinning:.

That reminds me of the time a friend of mine said ā€œafter Obi-Wan died, in Ep.V there were only three jedi left: Yoda and Luke Skywalkerā€

Or, Seguso is so involved in programming now that starts counting from zero.

I felt like this pack is taken straight from his game  I mean, look at the image!

Thanks for the links, @Someone and Guga.

I listened to the samples of the medieval one and unfortunately it is epic, not comic. Also , it’s full of strings . and it either does not have percussions or it has modern drums… sorry , that won’t work. What I need is: no strings, no piano, no guitar; only wood percussions, winds for the melody, bass of course, some organ maybe, a lot of rhythm, and that’s it…

My daughter doesn’t want to play her own game anymore because she feels humiliated that she’s illiterate and all the characters make fun of that. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Tell her that self-mockery is a sign of higher intelligence :stuck_out_tongue:

As I stated before, this way you are creating ā€œanother point’n’click adventure with the SCUMM interfaceā€.
Although the new GUI is well done, with its unique hand-drawn style, the game will lose that originality and freshness of the old GUI (which I like very much).

I mean, you can do whatever you want with your game, of course. If you feel it’s better this way, ok.
But the old interface is really unique, a never-seen-before thing, and for that reason it makes your game a new milestone in the adventure games.

Thanks for your kind words

I’ll keep the text interface as an option… I feel safer with two interfaces… some people really don’t like to play by assembling bits of sentences, apparently… even though Tangle Tower does it, and nobody seems to complain…
