Should I be alarmed?

If she wants to learn computer programming, I can teach her myself, since I’m a programmer too. I have even made games at some point in several languages, from basic to C++. I started learning to program when I was a bit younger than her.

But I think there’s no harm if she doesn’t want to program. I mean, there are tools for that, there’s open-source engines, there’s ways to get around it, including working with other people. Furthermore, maybe she will discover she likes only a bunch of aspects of developing, like game design, character design, environment design, storytelling, or making music. Right now she’s learning to use RPG Maker.

Exactly, if the tools that exist today had existed when I was young I’d probably not be working with what I’m doing today.

Learning programming to make games is not necessary at all.
