There’s an explanation for the Capcom’s choice to use “Herlock Sholmes” instead of the original name.
Capcom’s move is surprising, but it did not actually invent the pseudonym of Herlock Sholmes: it is the name that Maurice Leblanc used in 1906 to be able to make the investigator appear in a short story of Arsène Lupine without incurring penalties.
So far only played the original trilogy, due to my gaming platform of choice. Of course there’s also emulation, but I find that has a number of drawbacks, so I never really considered that.
But I’m in no particular hurry to play any of the games. Should they become available I’ll happily do, but if not then there’s plenty of other entertainment. Might be different if they had ended each game with a cliff-hanger .
I’ve played all the ones that were officially released in English and then griped about not having the rest. Although after July, I hope that my complaints can re-focus back on MEI2.
I’m really enjoying Spirit of Justice so far! It’s nice to go back (or should I say, forward) to the games where getting a game over isn’t a major setback, you can save without returning to the title screen, and making a mistake gives you funny dialogue that’s relevant to the case. If you mess up towards the end of the second case, Apollo’s hair gets set on fire, though you don’t see it happen on-screen.
I’ve finished the first two cases, and found them both very entertaining. I laughed out loud many times in the first one - when the text sound was changing pitch as Andistandh’in plays his instrument, the extreme metal transformation, and the other characters joining in with the songs. In the second case, I liked watching the footage of the magic show and Bonny’s cute teleportation trick in court.
I think the second case was very well-designed. Despite there being a lot of pieces of evidence, I didn’t feel overwhelmed by them, and I found myself anticipating ahead of time what evidence would be needed later. It was also a good feeling to figure out the major twist at the same time as Apollo: the true identity of the TV presenter.
It’s one of my favourite Ace Attorney games. Graphically improved compared to the Trilogy, and with nice puns and twists.
The character names are written as puns, as intended in their Japanese version.
I’m sure you immediately caught that the young boy Ahlbi Ur’gaid sounds like I’ll be your guide.

Hmm… I’m on the first day of the trial in Case 3, and I’m stuck with one of the Insights
The lanterns have just been made clearer. I think the Insight about the stage of the ceremony after the sutra is lowered has an inconsistency. I think it should be the Rite of Fire, because of the exposed flame of the lantern. But tapping that lantern doesn’t seem to work. Maya suggested combining what’s clearer now (a lantern) with the Insight that changed (he rushed the accused and tried to fight her off by the spring-side lantern) - but that doesn’t work either.
ok, in that insight there is a broken lantern, but to spot it you have to wait until the word “wind” appears next to one of the lanterns. At that point, present the lantern. You now want to look deeper, so the verb Sight will appear.
I have played each game twice at last, certain points require more reasoning than others, that one of the lantern was one of them, an out-of-the-box thing. There’s another one point that I remember well, in the 4th case…
