The pronunciation thread

Take a look at this italian comic quiz-show, where an “alien” coming from an unknown planet has landed in Italy.
He tries to read some english words… in italian, letter by letter :kissing_smiling_eyes:

Notice: the two anchor-men, the one with black glasses and the other one, have something to say about the pronunciation of the english word “back”
And they did not read this forum…

That is the one at the back. I think we are talking about the one in the front here aren´t we?

I know this probably isn’t the case, but I’m picturing you walking to your friend’s house, rolling Rs like a weirdo

A good friend of mine is an actress who likes to learn text in her garden and during cooking. Her kitchen window is right to the street where everyone can see her. This has led to several … weird situations.

It probably isn’t a big deal to you Italians, as you make that sound all the time. But to me, the rolled R is amazing and I love it  :two_hearts:

You should migrate to Bavaria…

Haha, like what?

I’m now trying to think what my favourite foreign language element is. I think it might be the ‘pointy’ sound of French. If that makes any sense?!

Everyone should! This is a nice place, just short of nice people!

Umm, what do you mean? Which words are “pointy”? :grinning:

I meant the language as a whole. I think it’s just the accent. I guess ‘crisp’ or ‘clean’ might be better words. And I guess it depends a bit on the region.

Have I told you the story already where we were standing in the old town of Strasbourg desperatly trying to figure out a way to ask a person for the way, pointing to a map and mumbling in bad french: “Excusez! Ou est la…le-ahh…uh?”

And the person replied(in german):

“We should rather speak german, shouldn´t we?”

And everyone was relieved.

Practically all of them :stuck_out_tongue: and that’s the reason why I don’t like French. All words end with the stress on the last syllable.

What I love the most from the languages I know is the sentence construction in German. It reminds me of Latin.

Of the languages I don’t know… I love the Greek accent. I heard a Greek trying to speak Italian once and it was lovely, I couldn’t understand a thing but the sound was so melodious.
