I’ll report just the part of my reply that makes me look less guilty:
I’m excited to see another Thimbleweed Park, but I would still voting “no”. IMHO the story of TWP is told and I would have liked to see a new adventure game in a new universe from the Terrible Toybox team.
Is it a preference related to the fact that you consider the story self-conclusive?
What do you mean with “preference”?
Of course it’s possible to write a sequel to TWP, but in my opinion the game doesn’t need one.
That’s my broken English. I should have said something like “Is the reason you don’t want another TWP game that you think the story is well concluded?”
You have already answered my actual question. ![]()
I think we’d need to play TWP2 to truly appreciate what we miss out on when not being allowed to get it
.
Though I guess I also stand by my No. I’d rather get something brand new and original. But I’ll rather have TWP2 than nothing.
I’m among those who voted no.
And among those who are hyped about TWP2. Is that a contradiction?
No. That was a poll made with a precise purpose: it was a “wish game”. And it was only months after the release of TWP.
“Ok, you’ve been gifted of this incredible gem you wouldn’t have dared to dream until the day of the announcement. Now that you tingled your appetite with it, just dream on: do you want a sequel?”
“No! I want MI3a! I want MM2a! I want Zak2! And I want many other new AGs from that very team in that very style, the genre’s reborn, hurray!”
That was my spirit, when I clicked no. Now, almost 10 years has passed. We’ve seen RTMI. We’ve seen a lot… We also didn’t witness any sudden rebirth. And TWP is a nice memory. We think about our lives back then, when we used to listen to the podcasts, babbling on the blog and planning pilgrimages to Munich or Berlin like we were teenagers. We had less money, more time, more and/or darker hair, no kids… At the time of the poll, TWP was recent news. Now TWP is nostalgia.
Today I’d vote yes. And I’m excited about this new game. And I’ve started (along with @Guga and @ZakPhoenixMcKracken putting the dub cast back together
You never know…
I also voted “no” and I’m also very hyped about the game.
The thing is, I’m not very fond of sequels in general. There are games / movies / books that establish such a rich universe that I feel like a sequel focusing on the same characters is… boring (e.g. Toy Story - did we really need a 4th and a 5th movie still around Woody and Buzz, while there’s a whole world where toys are alive? Surely you can tell the story about devices without using the very same kid and very same toys from the fourth establishment that people already thought was unnecessary).
Now, TWP for me ended in a very interesting way and there’s no need to continue the story. However, it set up an interesting environment, so there’s room to make great things. Delores already showed what they can do with it. Same character and setting, but… something else. So I have high hopes. But still, had they announced another point and click game, chances are I’d have been as hyped as I am now…
…without the added nostalgia bonus of coming back to the forums and talking with familiar nicknames I haven’t seen in ages
TWP literally changed my life so I couldn’t be happier.
Luckily TWP2 is announced as not a sequel, neither a prequel!
Not sure I am too fond of having to solve all puzzles by using the camera on everything and gave an inventory filled with polaroids.
Then you redesign the puzzle or simply cut it.
It looks like I also voted no. It’s been too long to remember why exactly, but I’d venture I meant that I don’t want TWP2 at the expense of something else. And that’s still true. I rather wouldn’t have a “lamer” TWP2 that’s just going through the motions because of course you make a sequel to a successful game. Of course Ron very cleverly addressed that concern immediately.
It depends. I’d say in videogames the sequel has a reasonable chance of being the best game, although I suppose I should say successor rather than sequel.
Yeah, I’m not a big fan of inventory items that don’t have a purpose, unless they’re done very sparingly and have a joke attached (MI1’s never-used staple remover where the look-at is “I bet this will come in handy”).
Hopefully it’ll only let you take photos of specific things. Though based on the how extensively they’ve created all the animation angles for photo-taking, it sounds like it’s a pretty key feature that can be done a lot.
Have any of you voted “Yes!”?
Filthy causals ![]()
… and also considering that it’s one of the features that they are implementing first.
I wonder what the agents will do with all those photos.
Fourth-walling a photo of the player might become Ron’s greatest meta achievement.
Well, I didn’t vote yes then, but I voted yes here:
So, I’ve been consistent with my recent reply.
For that one I’m surprised 5% voted a yes but, though I saw someone saying they weren’t so hot on the first one.
Obviously, I voted yes, and seeing that you all voted no, I kept quiet, but secretly I thought you were all a bunch of crazies (said with love :)).
Then, of course, Someone’s reasoning is bulletproof. By that logic, at that point I should also say, ‘No, because if they don’t do twp2, they’ll do something even cooler where you discover the ruins of lost civilizations.’
For full disclosure: I voted No on the first poll and Yes on the second.
The reason I voted “no” on the first poll is because I thought TWP is a nice finished story, so a direct sequel as the “2” implies… I simply couldn’t imagine without destroying the first ending.
The reason I voted “yes” on the second poll is because I lap up every bit of game this team produces, even infinite vertical scrolling arcade games. Merely buying the game is a no-brainer. Even if I haven’t got the foggiest idea how the new story in TWP2 will pan out.
That would be like asking Michelangelo to replace God’s finger in the Sistine Chapel with a hand giving a thumbs-up. ![]()
I’m also team “voted no on first poll but yes on second”
and re-reading my replies back then, it seems like I didn’t change my mind the slightest during all these years.
They say you get wiser with age, but it means I was just wise as *beep* already
