This reminds me I never actually got around to Syberia 3. I bought it in [checks mail] 2017. Yikes.
I only looked up some still images of each game. Slender threads reminded me most of TWP in terms of colour palette and architecture.
Harold Halibut looked most visually appealing.
Lost in play and Dexter Stardust too flat and rigid; while Syberia looked too overpolished.
Now each of these could be a hidden gem or turn out to be a stinker, depending on story and puzzles. So I took no risk and voted for “Ron’s next game!” of course. Which with the huge backlog and lack of time I have, might be closer to reality anyway.
For me it was a close call between Harold Halibut and Slender Threads. As far as I know, Harold Halibut is going to be more of a narrative game and no traditional point & click adventure, but its overall style and setting appealed to me the most. Never heard of Lost in Play or Stardust, and I never played anything from the Syberia franchise so far. The remaining option seemed a bit too drastic, so Harold Halibut it is.

One hour left to make an Italian text version reality. The Kickstarter has been really successful so far.
Tell me more about this “Return to Monkey Island”… do I get to play as a monkey? Do I have a machine gun?
Of course! Otherwise it wouldn’t be a Monkey Island game!
You have to use the machine gun on Stan, who will then wave his arms as he is riddled with bullets
Sounds good, so it’s some sort of battle royale game, where I parachute onto Monkey Island and then we have to shoot each other until there is just one character left, and we earn Big Whoop points…
FTFY!
We might get Flight of the Amazon Queen 2 (well, Return of the Amazon Queen is the official name):
Neat! That’s not something I thought I’d ever see (or even considered, if I’m honest). Between Return to Monkey Island, The Pandora Directive remake and now this announcement, the year 2022 has been a rather exciting time to be a fan of adventure games.
A new game from “fake Ron Gilbert”
What about Ron Grossmann?
Nearly missed this one, which is very much inspired by Monkey Island, it seems:
It’s also currently on Kickstarter, with 2 more weeks to go.
I backed this game because I like the backgrounds and the 9 verbs. The guy moves very slowly but the author promised he’s going to speed it up…
Cheers, looks cool, backed.
