Describe your ideal adventure game… what type of graphics, user interface, type of story, setting, etc. etc.
It doesn’t have to appeal to anyone else other than yourself, so it’s just strictly your personal favourite adventure game elements. There doesn’t have to be a logical reason for any of your choices, if you like something then that’s enough of a reason.
I just want to see what kinds of things people would pick if there was no need to get it to sell or keep it within budget, etc.
Here’s mine:
Graphics: Monkey Island 2 art style (though Monkey Island 1, Space Quest 4 or Space Quest 3 style would be next in line). No bobbleheads, I probably wouldn’t update anything to make it slicker/smoother.
User interface: Tough to choose, I may actually go with the Space Quest 4 mouse icon thing or the Monkey Island 3 coin thing. Next in line would be verbs or parser (parser would be a lot of fun, thinking about it)
Number of controllable characters: 1 main controllable hero (maybe very brief period where you can control another character)
Story genre: sci-fi, fantasy
Setting: some sort of fantastical sci-fi setting, various planets and creatures/aliens, bit like Space Quest or The Dig
Type of story structure: maybe something a bit mysterious like The Dig or something with time travel is always interesting. I would probably like it to be pretty simple in terms of good/evil, with an interesting bad guy.
Gameplay things: No dead ends, no deaths (Monkey Island style)
Tone: as funny as possible, maybe not many outright parodies of things like Space Quest, probably more like Monkey Island
Music: big colorful themes, Monkey Island or Space Quest style, maybe some very atmospheric stuff like The Dig, I also really liked the music Grim Fandango music, so a mix of all those things
Dialogue trees: I would have them, but not tons of them
Voice acting: I would have it
(There may be some other aspects to choose, I can’t think of anymore right now though…)
