I was tempted to claim the code because the CRPGAddict had high praises for the game and I wanted to see if I am able to enjoy RPGs made before the Fallout / Baldur’s Gate revolution. But my backlog is so long already that I would not feel good in taking away the game from someone more likely to play it.
Well, you can still wait a bit and grab it before it expires (January 9, 2026) if no one has claimed it by then and not feel bad about it.
Today I can offer the Eye of the Beholder series (Forgotten realms collection 1).
For those who want to go even old-skooler (older skool?) the codes for the Forgotten realms collection 2 (Pool of Radiance series and Savage Frontier) as well as FR collection 3 are coming in the next two weeks.
Start posting your stories to get one of the codes as a PM (or I’ll post by end of the year if no one shows a genuine interest).
I’ve bought all three collections years ago on GOG and have only recently started playing the first game (pools of radiance). (I kept the code of the silver box collection for myself, as these games were the only ones missing from my collection (aka the big backlog). So don’t expect a freebie code for that.)
OK here are the codes for the D&D Forgotten Realms collections (just remove the spaces and dashes I’ve added to mislead bots)
Don’t be greedy and take what you need / play what you take. Otherwise your encumbrance will be too high to flee and you’ll get wiped out by the first ghoul you encounter.
And maybe leave a message for the adventurers who come looking for treasure to loot after you…
volume 1: (Eye of the beholder games - the most popular I guess): TFN VBC-2C C4B-81CA 071 (claim before Feb 7th)

volume 3 (Dungeon Hack and Menzoberranzan): 4285 D96CF-40A064-CCD (claim before Feb 20th)
The Korean store Stove is giving away “SNK 40th Anniversary Collection”, an anthology of prized arcade games of the Eighties. If you don’t mind registering and giving your e-mail address to yet another site, the freebie you get seems interesting.
Don’t mind the preview box: the site auto-switches to English for people outside Korea.
Epic is giving away Total War: Three Kingdoms. Of this famous series I only played the first Rome so I cannot judge, but it’s undoubtedly a first-class strategy game.
“An infiltration game with RPG elements”. I liked Metal Gear Solid, Hitman and Splinter Cell but I’m not sure I’d appreciate the concept in a fantasy setting. For the lazy ones, here the links:
The game is refreshing and frustrating in basically all the same ways as Resident Evil later was too. I think fans of AitD say that RE lifted several room layouts straight up.
One of the most annoying things to me is when you walk into a monster on the other side of the room, or through a door or something, that you didn’t see because of the camera perspective.
So basically, I don’t really enjoy RE and AitD is a much more primitive version of it with worse controls.
Still, the atmosphere is top notch. I’d still recommend playing around with it for a little while, just to see the first few rooms.
I remember finishing the first one, it was tough but I managed it and it was a satisfactory ending
The second one I didn’t go through much since it started with a LOT of shooting (you started with little to no weapons against a mob with shotguns with far better aim than you) so I basically quit playing it early on, very frustrating.
I couldn’t run the Third one ever, it was difficult to set it up to run and then it crashed almost instantly, I don’t know if I got a faulty disk or if it was a problem configuring the memory (like some games used EMS memory so you had to set that properly or games would not run) or if it was my computer not being able to handle it at the time.
These games were very hard to play back then, and the controls haven’t aged well at all over time haha, it’s very difficult to have fun with these nowadays, I would say these are good to make proper remakes of, it’s a shame one remake that looked promising was canceled :(.
Cool. I’ve had it on my GOG wish list for over 15 years, but never bought it as I probably never will have the time to play it.
Now it can be unplayed in my GOG library for at least another 15 years.
I do remember playing the demo of the first game when that came out and being really bad at it. Oh, you moved too close to this window, now the camera angle changes and a grue ate you
Reload for ever. (This was on a 386 in pre-3D graphics card days)
You’re right. For some reason I thought that it was more a PS1 era game, but according to Wikipedia it’s not even a CD-ROM game, at least not exclusively. I’m pretty sure I also played a demo at least once, though it didn’t click with me. At least it would have been either on my dad’s 486 or my first own PC, a Pentium with incredible 200 Mhz!
