Free game of the day

State of Mind is free on GOG for the next 2 days.

Another one from Daedalic’s catalogue of post-traditional P&C adventures, with my one-word verdict here. Thinking back, I guess I liked the story and graphics style, though I don’t think there’s much in the way of puzzles (although I dimly remember that some of them required some thought). For free, I fully recommend it, though.

GOG is giving away A New Beginning, by Daedalic Entertainment.

The reviews are mediocre and I did not like Deponia by the same developers so I might pass on this, but it might fit the taste of some other adventure lover.

The game is good (but not excellent) and different to Deponia. It’s more serious and lacks the special comedy tone in Deponia. So it’s worth to give it a try, IMHO. I liked it.

That was the first P&C Adventure from Daedalic I played, and one of the first after Escape from Monkey Island. (The others included a couple of NDS titles, and the truly mediocre Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy). I thought it was pretty good at that time, but I would think the later Daedalic releases were better.

Worth noting is that it isn’t a comedy adventure, but comes across a bit more serious.

Not sure if Daedalic is merely the publisher or the developer for all of these, which may explain the varying quality.
One game that was (at least originally) published by Daedalic that I can wholeheartedly recommend is Candle: The power of the flame - even if it isn’t a point ‘n’ click

Daedalic is a publisher and a developer. “A New Beginning” was developed by them. If you would like to know which games are developed in-house and which are “only” published by them, you just have to consult the corresponding Wikipedia article (and scroll down).
