Pirates of the Caribbean once again copies Monkey Island

The first movie basically took the story of the first Monkey Island game to begin with. If they had made a series of Monkey Island movies instead, they would be exactly the same, just with different names, I guess.

Yes, according to Wikipedia, the story of the first PotC movie was written by someone who had been involved in a cancelled Monkey Island film production:

Yeah, I’m gonna need a better source than a Monkey Island fan site on this one.

That’s right. It’s only a rumor.

But, even if it’s true, they would never tell it officially.

It doesn’t matter anyway since Monkey Island was based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride + now everything belongs to Disney.

[/quote]More like inspired by. Also the jail and the dog called Walt in Monkey 2 is a homage due to that. And that’s about it. The story and all the characters were original.
