Toothrot!
We already knew that he was in the game though. First via the casting announcement of returning actor Wally Wingert and then from Ron confirming that they didn’t abide by the retcon from Escape From Monkey Island, where Herman proclaimed that he was Elaine’s Grandfather. Ron stated that Herman was back to just being a crazy old man in Return to Monkey Island. That’s a retcon of a retcon which I approve of.
I’m kind of curious to what it says about Treasure Island.
I meant the ghost chicken. And don’t call me Shirley.
You won’t believe this: the article mentions the book among the works that inspired Monkey Island and… On Stranger Tides isn’t mentioned at all!
Haha. XD
Heh. It’s probably the generic: all pirate tropes come from Treasure Island. I see the X marks the spot mentioned.
Someone hoping to play a PS5 release someday. I know y’all discussed it, but it seems strange that this is releasing on fewer systems than Thimbleweed.
TWP was released on very few systems (even Switch wasn’t supported!). Android and iOS came several month after the official release. And the Xbox version was only possible due to a sponsorship. So let’s see and wait. I’m sure that we will see RtMI on several other platforms too.
The contextual interactions make me think of Unavowed. It’s a nice addition. Keeps you more focused. I like it!
Also, nice to see some gameplay with a mouse.
EDIT: And an iMuse system!!! Aaaaaah! <3
Some people noticed a dynamic music change…
Yeah. It said launching on Switch and Steam. Didn’t state other platforms but it didn’t say it was only going to release on Switch and Steam. Just those will be first.
It seems to be a two-button-system: “Look” (left mouse button) and “Use” (right mouse button). So it would be a simplified “Delores” system.
I wouldn’t say that because you get more information than needed.
It’s strange that the text on mouseover does not tell you the immediate effect of clicking.
-
over the door, it is “time to talk to pirate leaders” instead of “open door”
-
over the pirates, it is “are the pirates supposed to be here?” instead of “talk to pirates”
And that is what I don’t like, because it feels like the game gives you spoilers all the time.
I wouldn’t be afraid of that… that’s probably not a puzzle. I mean, it’s probably known that you need to talk to pirate leaders. So it can’t be called a “spoiler”.
But not where. So when you just hover over the door, you instantly know that the pirate leaders are there. And in that case I would miss the fun of exploring the world and the Scumm bar.
I guess we are also reminded of where they are, in the beginning. Guybrush knows it well, after all.
To me it looks like the sentence is explaining what is going to happen when you click, (= what it means to click there). it’s just doing it in a strange way.
Yes, I hope, that is true. I assume that the trailer shows the beginning/tutorial of the game. And I hope that we get a more “complex” interface similar to that in Delores.
Yes, and this is exactly a spoiler. If you just “talk” to a pirate, you don’t know, how he will react. With the current system you know how the pirate react (or why you have to talk to him) before actually talking to him.
But you know what you are going to tell him.
So maybe the game is just telling you what it means to talk to him. What you are going to say.
Don’t assume the worst
It sort of feels like the Look command has disappeared, and been replaced by that text telling us what Guybrush is thinking.
In the past we’d examine something and hear Dominic Armato comment, “The SCUMM Bar. Time to talk to the pirate leaders!” or “Smells good in there.” But now it’s the hover text.
EDIT: Each clickable thing has one interaction, plus the hover text.
