I showed it to my daughter, and she said “I really like the pirate in the middle”. I’m so so so curious to know what’s going on, who are these people, what will they bring to the story.
Also I’m glad I’m late for the discussion about their physical characteristics.
The old pirate leaders filled the narrative role of threshold guardians. I think that’s the role the new guardians will fill, as well.
Perhaps Guybrush will need to complete three tasks to convince them to launch that expedition/raid to monkey island?
The old pirate leaders had goals which opposed Guybrush’s. He wanted to be a pirate, they said “three trials, off you scoot”. Him and Elaine are totally DTF at one stage, but he needs to finish his trials first. But they’re not antagonists. They’re helping(or are they etc)
An antagonist is just a character who opposes the protagonist, but not all opposition is antagonistic in nature.
I do badly at trope discussions lol. I acknowledge the power and usefulness of tropes, but I always want to say “its more complicated than that” all the time.
I talked about art with my daughter and she said “I liked the first two games more, but it’s not bad”. She’s 9, so I don’t think nostalgia is a factor. She does however have a dad who’s drawing pixel art every day so she might be biased
I’m loving it more and more. I find it very immersive. It has a distinct style and it’s very very expressive. Also, I think high-res + spine allows for a way more cinematic experience. Design your assets properly, and adding a special case animation is completely inexpensive.
Not really, though. They wanted him to succeed. They just give him tasks to do so. They’re like mentors.
Therefore, they’re not antagonists.
True antagonists don’t want the protagonist to succeed in their tasks.
I don’t know how the new pirate leaders will evolve - nobody know besides Ron, Dan and their team as of now - but, for what we’ve seen so far, it seems like they don’t want Guybrush to go on an expedition at all.
This is antagonistic.
And again, judging by the summary, it seems like they will make Guybrush’s life difficult, at least, in the beginning.
EDIT: What I meant is that the old leaders tested Guybrush, like teachers. They’re giving him trials so he can get better at pirating and then become a pirate. The tasks are difficult but still doable. They don’t exist for Guybrush to fail, therefore the characters are not opposing him. I hope it’s clearer.
And again, sorry if I talk about that a lot. Writing is my life.
Those last couple happened to be movies, but I will consult the all-knowing google images tomorrow and see what sort of weird and wonderful choices are there to behold, movies or otherwise.
Edit: But if there is nothing surprising there, then it’ll be Ocean’s eleven, haha
