We definitely have to get some of those! … ahem … I mean, wouldn’t it be nice to have a physical release that looks good next to MI1 and MI2? ![]()
Off the scan of my box. LOL.
Do you guys think Ron will try to copy himself and put something similar to insult swordfighting ? (which MI3 and MI4 already tried to copy with little success)
Or at any rate something with a new mechanics?
This is one of the best tshirts ever. How did you get it printed this well?
I wonder if the new insults would be written with the help of a child labor just like some in the MI were.
Orson Scott Card:
I’m proud of those insults. I had help, though. They had to have really LAME insults to start with, so he could learn better ones through later combat. So I asked my kids - then still in grade school - what lame-o insults they heard kids using on the playground.
And then, because they loved the whole process (and I tried out my insults and ripostes on the family), my kids volunteered some “good” insults and ripostes (I put “good” in quotes because IS there such a thing as a good insult?), and some of their suggestions made it into the game.
I didn’t give them any credit, however, and kept all the money. Children are an oppressed minority, and I, for one, intend to keep it that way.
I started to play MI again after the good news and my 6 year old was watching me when I got to the insult fight part. He loved it so much. Now we reenact the insults from memory. So kids are best with these!
I feel like Ron wouldn’t want to repeat himself by doing that, as I don’t think he did it in MI2? So he probably doesn’t think it’s a fundamental part of all MI games.
And like you say, it’s maybe been overdone a bunch now with MI3 and MI4.
Though at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if it is in there or some new variation of it.
I found a high resolution image of the original art by Purcell (like this one, but the resolution was even higher) and ordered a t-shirt from an online service that uses a printing technology that keeps all the image details. The fabric of the t-shirt is synthetic and that also helps getting very sharp outlines.
Link, please
I want a shirt like that.
I second this!
I don’t think so, but I hope that we’ll get a new grog-based puzzle or at least something based on inventory objects that automatically change over time.
BTW, the icon of the new “Return to Monkey Island” website is dedicated to the iconic grog mug:
How can you tell?
What’s so unique about your box?
(Too lazy to go get mine from the attic)
You mean:

A Monkey Island box has to be presented in the living room!
That’s the modified version I made from the KIXX scan with the darkened background. The original 2007 scan is here I patched it up/expanded it using the OEM box, but if you open the unmodified files you can clearly see the KIXX is much higher DPI.
Sure sure the darkened box is a great accomplishment, but let’s focus on that damn shirt and getting a group buy going.

You guys think Lucasfilm and Devolver are just investors, or they had a say on the content?
Did Lucasfilm have to approve the writing, in other words, or did Ron and Dave have total freedom?
(At least, it seems that Ron chose the art style in total freedom.)
I believe that, under the growing tide of the people wanting a new Monkey Island game made by its creator, Lucasfilm (Disney) has thought: if I give him hands free, I will make much more money.
They made an agreement on the profits: 99% to Ron, 1% to Disney, or vice-versa.
I would assume Lucasfilm/Disney didn’t have much input other than just allowing it to be licensed.
We know Ron has been trying to buy the IP for a while, they probably told him that they can’t sell it to him, but they can license it like Telltale did with Tales, and made him a good enough offer/split to make it worthwhile.
Because he’s the original creator and this is potentially just a one-off to complete his trilogy, I doubt whether they had any rules to what he could do with it.
