Ron declares he is working on a new Monkey Island

You have to go to the history and have a look at the changelist. One of the first changes mentions the three packages:

Ok, this looks REALLY good to me now, this gets me a lot more excited to play than the trailer did…
I really like the atmosphere and all the little details.

I agree. I think it looks great. I’m very impressed. To me, it both feels nostalgic and modern. I love it!

Maybe this will be the first Monkey Island game that I’ll play with a controller.

I’m pretty sure that the speed of Guybrush is variable, depending on how much you push the analog stick.

Me too, actually. I’m planning to get it on Switch. I need to send my left Joy-con for repair though… (Joy-con drift is hell…)

Playing a Point and Click adventure with controllers is blasphemy ! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

On the other hand, I can’t help asking… why is that dock so crooked? Why, God, why?

in the video there’s no mouse pointer. It’s being played by controller.

In this mode, I suppose you can only interact with the object you are closest to. (Like Grim Fandango or Nine witches).

Despite the different art style, Mêlée is still much closer to what it used to be than what they did in EMI. And no Lua bar.
I wonder, will it be renamed to Ron’s new engine or scripting language eventually?

You can’t deduce that. It’s more likely that Ron/Dave/David has scripted that sequence just for the video. And the official website has a pointer.

(But I would guess that you will be able to play it with a controller.)

This person on Twitter extracted and cleaned the background from the video:

Well, it has “that certain” atmosphere, no doubt for me.

Now I just need a custom-made monitor.

I just bought a widescreen monitor…

Carla is currently Governor of Melee Island, confirmed! This is all so very exciting! The more I see of the art style, the more ingratiated I become.

I think if nothing else, this game deserves +9 just for getting the geography of Melee Island correct. It annoyed the living bugger-wugs out of me that they messed up the position of the Scumm/Lua Bar in Escape From Monkey Island. The inner petty nerd within me simply cannot sanction such canonical buffoonery.

It has to be said that the music within the latest Monday Monkey Madness clip (I don’t think that’s its official name but I’m calling it MMM - Monday Monkey Madness) is sublime. If absolute worst comes to worst, then we’re gonna get a damn fine soundtrack out of this!

Man, I’m gonna savour every screen, every interaction, every little detail. It’s been a dream of mine for Ron Gilbert to make another Monkey Island game, ever since I was a wee little bairn. Even if the game ultimately ends up disappointing me, I can’t help but be excited and swinging from chandeliers in jubilation, that this is a thing which is actually happening.

A few mere months ago, I never would have believed it. I realistically expect the game not live up to my own created and self-inflicted hype, yet I am just so happy that it will happen at all. This is the stuff dreams are made of and I have every intention of basking in those dreams, right up until the point that the game is released and those dreams are inevitably shattered. I am a life long fan of Alien, so I know the pain of an original creative returning to a beloved dark fairytale. It was titled Prometheus and it remains my single biggest cinematic disappointment. I hope to like Return to Monkey Island more than Prometheus. I don’t expect to, but I hope to.

Hope for the best, expect the worst is my general philosophy to such things. It’s best to go in with lowered expectations. It’s difficult to keep one’s expectations in check, mind; when the material is a return to a defining moment of your childhood and is being made by an idol. I expect the worst, but man, do I ever hope for the best.
