You mean like this?

Where is that? :face_with_monocle:

Right at the top of the page @Someone linked to?

But yeah, annoyingly they don’t put it on the individual game info page.

Which is where you can find them in the PSN Store (which makes sense because different games or groups of games have different start and end dates for discounts).

Who doesn’t like simple, short and memorable game titles like Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover The Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG?

Nearly one year ago (the year of the Thimbleweed Park re-release, so sadly this game had no chance in getting an Adventure Game of the Year Award) this sweet adventure was release:

Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots

The game is off by 40% until 2018-12-09.

It may remind you a little bit of Space Quest but don’t worry: It doesn’t try to kill you all the time just because you click on the wrong spot!

Captain Disaster is now on sale on FireFlower Games until end of week:

I am FireFlower Games, a proprietor of carefully selected downloadable, DRM-free games for Windows, Mac and Linux worldwide. I love games and am based in Malmö, Sweden. I’m not an artificial intelligence!

Interesting. Might give it a go.

Don’ forget that in case you are talking about this particular game: It’s a Windows AGS game.

Most of their games I already have on GOG, but Ankh was one I’ve found only there (also Windows only).

Linux is just my regular desktop OS, if that’s what you’re worried about.

Unless you mean AGS games are something to watch out for?

No no, Just an additional information to judge its compatibility (btw. should you play it using Wine tell us how it went; I’ve actually found comments the MacOS version of AGS being not that great so maybe AGS+Wine is better anyway than a native port?).

Well, you made me curious. I installed demo in Wine (3.0.3, so stable but outdated) and it all seems to work flawlessly as far as I can tell. Here are the game settings:

If I were really curious, I’d probably try this, too. There seems to no a need in any case.

I do have some minor qualms like not being able to Alt + Enter between fullscreen and windowed mode as most modern games allow, but given the AGS setup application I would image that has nothing to do with Wine. The same applies to there not being an apparent pause function, since it’s not like anything is mentioned on the topic in the manual either.

Good to know.
Yeah, this all sounds like shortcomings of AGS, not Wine.

A native build may not be so easy for all games since some AGS games use plugins which often are Windows-only.
E.g. Maniac Mansion Deluxe used a Windows-only plugin for the flashlight.

Since it looked really easy I decided to build the Debian package and it took less than two minutes. Alas, it looks like if you were serious about it you’d quickly get into some serious versioning trouble:

I could just build whichever tag hadn’t yet dropped support for v47, which might be 3.3 as opposed to the current 3.4 range of releases? But managing that would be hellish. (And unnecessary given how Wine seems to have no trouble at all.)

On another note, it looks like someone is working on (legacy) AGS support for ScummVM: https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/AGS

PS Apparently building tag v.3.3.5.11 or v.3.4.0.16 isn’t something you can just do either:

$ git checkout v.3.3.5.11
Note: checking out 'v.3.3.5.11'.

[…]

HEAD is now at c8e6fc4c Manual: updated to 3.3.5.11
frans@frenzie-desktop:~/src/ags$ fakeroot debian/rules binary
dh binary --parallel
dh: Compatibility levels before 9 are deprecated (level 8 in use)

Good news though, at least for now that’s really easily fixed by changing this file from 8 to 9.

Don’t forget to clean first:

fakeroot debian/rules clean

And now we have a v.3.4.0.16 that runs the game natively.

It’s worse than the Wine version in this quick test. It’s basically exactly the same, except in Wine the audio works properly out the box, and I can still more or less Alt-Tab. In Wine the game still doesn’t quite seem to want to do it, but you can still Alt-Tab. The mouse arguably controls more smoothly in Wine, but it’s a bit iffy either way, perhaps due to the ultra-low resolution thing. Here’s the log running the Linux ags executable in the data folder for the curious:

Even FoxTail is currently on sale at GOG - even though it’s still in development. Have the developers run out of money, perhaps? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’d try v3.4.0 since this is the version used by the developers.

Edit:

Oh so you have actually tried the exact version already!

ScummVM integration would be nice! But we’d still have problems with plugins and also the format issues you’ve discovered. Maybe multiple AGS versions would need to be integrated (as with SCUMM etc.)?

Last update on GOG was on 2018-06-01. It can take quite some time with small developers (as I know from many Kickstarter projects)…

We are now waiting for completion of Kentucky Route Zero for > 2 years or so.

But why would they do a sale before the development is completed? So many people interested in this game will own it in advance, anyway. However, I doubt that this won’t decrease the revenue after the final release.
Well, personally, I have been waiting for this game to be completed. I even would have paid the full price then, but, now I noticed that sale, so I’m going to think twice.

FoxTail wasn’t expensive to begin with.
But even worse: Why are they giving Full Throttle away for free?

I think, everyone who loves Full Throttle already owns it. It’s more than 20 years old already, in contrast to FoxTail.
