The Maniac Mansion thread (general discussion for people who finished it or don’t mind spoilers)

Well, he wrote “tips, hints, walkthroughs” in the title - for me it was pretty clear that there could be spoilers …

But you can make it that he gets Sandy at the end …

But ‘tips and hints’ sounds like where you go for help while you’re playing it. Like the TWP one we have. Was only a thought.

I’ve added “spoilers” word to the title

Yes, but then it is very likely that there are spoilers in the thread - because a hint and a walkthrough are spoilers.

So if people are coming here for the promised ‘hints and tips’ we should blur spoilers like we do in other threads. It would be a shame if they came for help and read a load of spoiler stuff.

But maybe I’ve misunderstood what the thread is for :woman_shrugging:

But a thread with “tips and hints about Maniac Mansion” is full of spoilers? Or am I wrong? Same with a walkthrough: If I read a walkthrough I would expect hat there are spoilers in it.

I think it was just an elaborate way for Zak ask a question I personally am preeeeeeety sure he already asked somewhere else and got answered before and just forgot about in the meantime.

So here we are. :man_shrugging:

Spoiler Alert!

The purple meteor did it!

So I watched Fast Times At Ridgemont High and I swear to you I will eat a broomstick if the character of Jeff Spicoli (played by Sean Penn) wasn´t at least partly an inspiration for the character of the same name in Maniac Mansion!

Oh yeah, I’ve seen that. It’s pretty amazing that Van Halen was still the same kind of big deal by the time Bill & Ted came out.

Yeah by that time they were in their early days but they were very popular from their debut album on. And by the time of Bill & Ted there were right in the middle of the first Sammy Hagar phase which I guess revitalised them.

The other two groups mentioned are Blue Öyster Cult and Ozzy Osbourne (in the what happened to them montage).

Some interesting stuff about MM if you like to see the differences of the versions side by side

And absolute proof that the C64 version still is the best anyway

Woops, you have misspelled ‘v2’, which is understandable since it also consists of letters and numbers.

You made a typo, quite understandably as 1 and 2 are right next to each other.
But I find the V1 color palette a bit too saturated.

Seriously: V2 is to C64 for MM what SE is to VGA for MI1.
Yes it looks prettier. But not really. (The added shading is off in most places)
Yes there is more detail. But not the ones I added in my own imagination. (Sandy and Razor look less attractive with more pixels… sometimes details were even removed, like the curtains in Ed’s room)
Yes the characters do not blend with the wallpaper like chameleons. But why they had to make the Edisons look like creepy Smurfs…

Most people prefer the first version they have ever played anyway, which may be v1 or the correct one: v2. :slightly_smiling_face:

Because this was much closer to what they intended originally.
