Thimbleweed Park Linux Steam - Can't Launch Game

Hi

I’ve just bought the game after being a big fan of the Monkey Island games and playing the Delores mini game, but can’t get it to launch (Linux Mint 21.3). I’ve got a very old GFX card (GeForce GTS 450), but should be enough to play as the Delores game work flawlessly.

I’ve tried to launch the game in compatibility mode (using Legacy Steam Runtime 1.0 and Scout 1.0) and get the crosshair cursor for 5-10 seconds, then nothing and back to Steam library.

Any help gratefully received!

Thanks

I hate to suggest it, but have you tried running the Windows version with Proton instead?

And have you contacted the support?

GFX card should be no issue. The game even runs on my old Phenom II without a GFX card just fine.
Did you “Verify integrity of game files”?
Did you try starting the game from a terminal, to see if some errors shows up?
Also ~/.local/share/Terrible Toybox/Thimbleweed Park/Log.txt might show something helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have verified the integrity of the game files and had a look at the log (just shows “[07/16/25 17:40:15] Booted.”).

I’ll try the support contact next!

Just tried the Proton version, that does the same thing :frowning:

Still trying to make this work and have never had any success. I’m assuming it is something in my setup, but still no luck!

In the latest native Linux install and no flags set in Steam, I just get a full screen black screen for a few seconds, then back to Steam.

Are you still using Linux Mint 21.3? I’m not sure if a newer version would help, but since it doesn’t run it probably shouldn’t hurt trying to upgrade it either.

Hi, yes, I am. The old HP Z400 I’m using doesn’t seem to like a newer Kernel so am stuck with this currently. My plan is to upgrade the lot in the next year, so it should all be fine after that!
