I just noticed that the Windows Store Version is finally available for PC as well, so I bought it right away, but this here is all I am getting

In the end a simple restart of the machine actually fixed the problem and the game is running fine now

I was having the same problem: the game was stuck at the splash screen. The difference is that it first worked, but after a few days, stopped working.
Rebooting also seem to have fixed it. Hope I won’t need to restart my computer everytime I want to play Thimbleweed Park because it could be quite frequent
