Under development adventure games that are worth a mention

Stick some spiky hair or fancy hairbands on those mice and it’s Final Fantasy.

Ah f*ck it, the demo was pretty decent & I liked the previous game so I’m going for it.

Theropods: A new point’n’click with large pixels and dinosaurs, and it will be DRM-free:

The trailer has a lot of fighting in it but this is probably the cinematic part they mentioned.
“They” are from Netherlands, UK and US.

You can try the demo here: https://gamejolt.com/games/theropods/58684

There is a much older demo, playable online, here:

The artists were recently interviewed on The Adventure Games Podcast (the interview was shortly before they launched the kickstarter):

I backed the Theropods game but I am not completely convinced of the approach… in the adventure games podcast, IIUC, they said they wrote a lot of puzzles, then dropped 3/4 of them because they would not be able to create all the corresponding animations. Wait a second  : this means they are throwing away content because it does not fit the graphics? Shouldn’t this be the other way round? Compare this to e.g. Darkside Detective, where they gave up animations because they wouldn’t be able to fit all the content.
OTOH, I understand that in silent games (like Chuchel) , animations are the only means to describe the rules of the puzzle, so it’s impossible to implement a puzzle if you can’t afford them. No big deal, I backed the game anyway. Still it’s interesting to note the consequences of choosing a completely silent style.

They could do it Maniac Mansion style which didn’t include any special animations at all

But something like TWP does look nicer, with all that chainsaw swinging and so.
Or the forest… :deciduous_tree: :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed: :drop_of_blood: :drop_of_blood:

High reach, medium reach, low reach. That’s all you need.

Time travel is the main gameplay element of our game

It looks platformer-y and has time travel? Like The Cave!

Apropos time… I’m still knees deep in making my adventure (non - The First Warp). Yesterday it finally felt like I was playing a real game I haven’t felt that with it in over 4 years.

I’ve made this video showing off a couple of locations to celebrate: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2pbrF_3wJLQ

Development is accelerating now as I have most of the core functionality nailed down.

Looks very interesting and distinctive! It has a comic style but it doesn’t try to look cute and child friendly, like nearly all modern adventure games. Good luck with it.

Thanks! It’s distinctive look is a nice bi-product of my art style I guess. I’m looking forward to release it!

Looks very nice, but does the character really move that slow? How are we supposed to play it?

Isn’t that part of the concept? Cite: “A cavernous ultra-slow idle adenture”

Yeah, I know, but how can that concept possibly work :grimacing:

I think the idea is you click on the other side of the screen, whip out your book and read about 6 pages, and click on the next thing.
