The katmandu yak in zak mckracken was a mean of transportation.
If you manage to rename the location in the game to Dehli, you can easily turn your yak into an elephant. Elephants were (and sometimes are) used in India for that purpose. I have been in Dehli just once, but I’m quite confident I haven’t seen anyone riding tigers. I’ve seen a few elephants, though.

As far as we are aware in the rest of the world, those species are both big and endangered, though less endangered than the Asiatic lion. So, yeah, that explains their status as famous big Indian animals.
Ok, so that only leaves the elephant as a possible alternative to the yak in Zak. That and the fact that riding a taxi tiger isn’t realistic either. AFAIK, the elephant is the only animal out of those three that you could actually ride on (in India at least).
