A new mysterious game from Ron Gilbert / Terrible Toybox

not my kinda game actually, since i’m not good at (and don’t like) action-heavy games.

but i’ll definitely purchase it. i can already see Monkey Island and TWP references.

very cool. roguelikes can be a lot of fun, this definitely has a cool look to it, easy wishlist add.

Published by Microprose? I wasn’t aware that this brand still exists …

It all moves a lot faster than I was expecting from the screenshots, though that might be heightened by the very fast cuts of the trailer.

The genre is not my cup of tea, but I like the graphic style! :slightly_smiling_face:

I am not a Fan of games where I have to act under time pressure. But I’ll give it a try. Maybe it’s a p&c adventure after all.

Man, those are some pretty steep GPU and RAM requirements for what the game looks to be.

On the other hand, running it on my old computer might slow down things enough so I can actually see what’s happening and react to it in time.

New blog post - Death by TesterTron3000 | Grumpy Gamer

Which includes gameplay footage (from his automated tester playing the game) -

Love the graphics, don’t think I’d be able to play this though, as the screen shake after every hit is having some sort of effect on me where I can’t concentrate and feel kind of nauseous.

looks very cool to me, love the music. i don’t see any mention of co-op but it looks like it would be a really fun co-op game. also neat to see MicroProse getting back in the mix like @Someone said. i randomly came across another game they’re publishing in the future too which looks amazing: Car Park Capital on Steam

I understand it’s really just the brand.

And yeah Car Park Capital seems cool. It’s from a Dutch dev btw.

There’s also Dying Breed on Steam , which looks a bit like a Tiberian Sun / Red Alert 2 demake in the style of C&C 1.

Same here. Especially in the winter level. Maybe it’s a different thing if I have control over the hero.

Hopefully it’s something you can turn off in the settings - it seems like the sort of thing that would be optional.

This is a bit unrelated to the main topic, but Ron has implemented comments on his blog.

As many of you will recall, comments were disabled a few years ago due to some RtMI-related backlash.

New interview with Ron, about Death By Scrolling -

He talks about if he’d do another adventure game:

I do feel with adventure games, if I do another one, I want it to be really different and interesting. You know, things like Thimbleweed Park and Return to Monkey Island were very nostalgia-based. They were there for nostalgic reasons and really needed to leverage that nostalgia quite a bit. I really want to do something different with adventure games. I want to build something where the gameplay isn’t that standard point-and-click gameplay, but something different.

I’m very intrigued by setting a standard adventure game in a real 3D environment, so you’re not just walking around a 2D thing, but you have a 3D world to explore. That’s very interesting to me. There are games like Lorelei and the Laser Eyes - I don’t know that I’d categorize that as an adventure game exactly, kind of more of a puzzle game. But I found it narratively just utterly fascinating. So if I’m going to do another adventure game, I want it to be a really interesting and unique and different game, not just another point-and-click adventure game.

And about ideas for another Thimbleweed Park game:

The thing about Thimbleweed Park is in some ways I boxed myself in with the ending. Kind of hard. So I’m not saying this is the way it would be, but I was thinking about it as a prequel. So I was kind of calling it not “Thimbleweed Park 2”, but “Thimbleweed Park Zero”. Because then I can wind back the clock a little bit in terms of what happened with the game and go from there. But I mean, I did a quick outline for what the story would be, but it didn’t really get much farther than that.

I vote for Thimbleweed Park Zero. And then Thimbleweed Park Minus-1. But only if they are pixel arted by Mark Ferrari and/or Octavi.

Also I want Thimbleweed Park Zero to be EGA, and Thimbleweed Park Minus-1 to be a text adventure.
