It’s probably due to some Primer style time travel loop.
What novel concept is that? Gets a from me!
Lately, I mainly translate them.
$160 though…
that’s $20 per game + $60 for the assorted junk
plus another $100 or so for shipping, tax and duties…
To much for me too unfotunetaly, but still awesome.
This is what really stops me from fully liking Curse. Great game, great Monkey Island themed game, but… maybe also the Italian voice doesn’t help (it seems to me that most of the actors thought it was a childish game, especially Wally), but Curse’s Guybrush always felt odd.
And Elaine starting the game saying he’s the only man she’s ever loved? She spent the whole second game insulting him, wrote a book about their awful relationship, what happened? That was a big no for me from the beginning.
Looks cool, but I’d rather not shell out money to “someone-who-bought-a-game-that-wasn’t-really-theirs-to-begin-with.” Lol!
Better some date, than no-date at all :o) Release date is important and because nobody tracked them back then, now its a mess.
Hoping someone from the future can travel through time and tell us the real release date.
They could also nonchalantly inquire about the Secret while they are there .
September 2nd 1990
I also saw a picture of Ron overseeing Lucasfilm games personnel in a warehouse assembling code wheels and filling boxes, with huge stacks on wooden palettes behind them- but I wasn’t able to find it back (even though I saw it twice the last week or so)… so use your imagination based on that description for now. My guess is that this picture was taken at least a couple of weeks later, perhaps even months later - but obviously before shipping the game to retailers.
I also found another video that puts the (floppy) VGA release in December 1990, which I find very hard to believe.
Don’t worry…
It’s happening, preorders start in 13 hours, for $174.99, and for real for now!
Also note:
- " Certificate of Arrr!thenticity " (hand-signed by Ron Gilbert!)
and of course (to make the first two games actually playable):
- Code Wheels
So they raised the price. Fair enough, they included more feelies and real physical media! Overall looks way better - especially that marble box.
I am afraid I will need to buy it as they won’t sell the book separately despite earlier statements.
Anyone knows what exact version(s) of the first games is included: EGA? DOS? VGA? CD? Special Edition? FM Towns?
Different languages or only English? I think MI3 missed a fun song/puzzle in all(?) translations.
Yes, they postponed the preorder after feedback from people who especially wanted physical media and more art.
I can tell you in a year or so for sure, but I would assume it’s those versions which are currently available in online stores. I.e. Special Editions.
Non-English versions sound unlikely to me, that’s just too much trouble, often even for a single game. And the Special Editions never even had translations, right?
A Pirate I Was Meant To Be was actually included in other versions but wasn’t translated and therefore skipped by the engine.
ScummVM didn’t have this hack so people got a nice surprise when replaying their localised versions.
Here the mock-ups of the content for comparison.

You mean dubs? Reasonably sure they have translations.
Yes, 100% sure the special editions have multiple languages (subtitles/text only)
That’s right. So no voice overs in other languages.
+ $62.99 for international shipping, oh well.
Plus some $50 for tax and import duties…
Oh well…
