My son-a-reno played it a little bit but now he says it’s too hard. I’ll give him a couple more years and try again… he’s too busy bay-blading or YOLO’ing or whatever the beep kids do these days.
Yeah, for a 9 years old (right?) it could be to much. I was 12 when I played Maniac Mansion for the first time, and I was stuck at the first puzzles. Then I gave up. Months later, I played again and it was all clearer…
I had the same experience but with Zak (I’m guessing I was 10 or 11?). But it’s fun to wander around and try things, you don’t have to focus on winning the game. It’s the kind of game that rewards exploration with funny jokes.
I won’t spoil any of the actual game here, but, try failing the visa code copy-protection 5 times in a row
I’m not even sure you can do that in the GOG version? It might require re-enabling something in the options filr.
hehehe thank you. I knew it, but the first time I was told about that Easter egg, it didn’t work on my copy of Zak. At that time, there were only pirated copies.
Later, after having finished the game, I felt the desire to purchase a legal copy of the game.
It’s very easy to find on Youtube if it’s not on your version. Not the same I know, but still funny. ![]()
Also not even the legal copies of Maniac Mansion had the steel barrier door in the first floor. So Bernard fatally failing at his code deceiphering skills is a joke no one on the C64 got.
That door was just open in the GOG version. What would’ve happened? Nuclear meltdown? Something else? ![]()
This.
Well, you can enable that again!
Even the demo!!
Let me know if you need help on lmgtfu
How can you have a burnout from those games? Those were the good ones! I stopped playing most of their games after the Jurassic Park one.
For example there was no run in the first season…
And I thought this is common everywhere!

I loved season and two of Sam and Max. I only started season 3 since the beginning of the first episode felt totally unplayable to me because of the controls. A shakey cam in an adventure game? No thanks.
In my opinion the seasons got better and better, the third one being the best.
Are you referring to Max’ psychic powers? I thought they were a great addition to the gameplay.
In terms of the camera with Sam, the first scene isn’t a good representation of the rest of the game, because for most of the time you’ll be on solid ground. I assume you played long enough to get past that scene?
I really liked Max’s psychic powers, but I wasn’t keen on the way the camera zooms in and out for no reason.
Yeah, the run feature was my favourite improvement.
I was really happy that Season 3 let me move Sam around with WASD / the arrow keys. It felt much better than having to click several spots to make Sam move down one long path. The hint system was also better-integrated, in that the characters don’t suddenly stop walking when they give a hint - it was a lot more subtle. I found the hints especially useful when they signalled to me that there was nothing more to be found in that particular room.
I think I did. I think they also changed the UI. I really didn´t like the way it was radically different to the first seasons, which felt very much like classic point and click.
Btw. since you have tried PS VR: Have you played Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin? It looks like a similar concept as in Sam & Max Season 3.
No, but looks interestingly like a first person thing for once.
The only adventure games they have so far are more like you being in a big playset and controlling the little figures by giving them directions and commands.
Wayward Sky is one such game that plays real nice and Moss is just the cutest thing where you direct a sweet little white mouse through a maze of puzzles and traps.
