Pixel artwork artists

Thank you !!!

Yes, that´s is the idea. Work in other Lucasarts covers.
Someday… :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s really beautiful and well done.

Out of curiosity: did you use a generic graphic software like Photoshop or a pixelart-specific application?

Well it´s not only very good on it´s own, it´s a million times better than the cover of the special edition, that´s for sure!

I just finished the second cover of my pixel art tribute to the Lucasfilm games…
The great Maniac Mansion :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s beautiful!

Can I ask you something about your process to choose the colors of the palette?

It seems to me that you adopt at least two different methods: 1) few colors chosen by hand for the characters, the background and the title and 2) a lot more shades for the superimposed face.

My question is: how do you create the parts with the smooth shades of one color, for example the eye of the face? Have you used a fill function, selecting a range of similar shades of blue? Have you used for the face also an additional layer with a partial transparency?

Thanks again for these drawings.

I’m currently discovering the art of JunkBoy (Gallery of his pixel art works).

Here is an article that shows a long list of game “demakes” made by him, one of which is the demake of Brutal Legend:

I didn’t know this artist until a few days ago, his name is Pixel Jeff.

I’m citing him here because I really liked a lot some of his creations and especially the following pixel art reproduction of the movie poster of Star Wars : The Force Awakens.

You’ll find many other movie-inspired pictures in his gallery.

My last work, and the third of the Lucasarts pixelated cover arts: the only one, the insuperable… The Secret of Monkey Island.

The fourth of the serie: DOTT ( Much simpler and less “impressive”, but I have been accurate to the simplicity of the original style )

Do you have a reference that these works are done pixel-by-pixel? Its hard to imagine, like 300x200 is 60k. So if you need 1s per pixel you end up with 1000h. Seems not reasonable.

No and, actually, I think that I have to remove that “pixel-by-pixel” from my post because I find it highly likely that he used also the usual tool to fill an area with a color.

Added: Discourse doesn’t let me modify that old post.

LowLevel already mentioned the likelihood of using a fill tool, but it’s also important to point out that your math is wrong.

60,000 pixels at a rate of 1 pixel per second translates into about 1,000 MINUTES, not 1,000 hours. At 1 pixel per second, 60,000 pixels could be placed in less than 18 hours.

True… 1h has 3600s of course…

@Ricardo I like your pixel art from Monkey Island 1+2, Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle. Do you plan to make other pictures (or redraw the current ones) also in plain 8 bit color range (4 bit per channel)?

Thanks !!!
Oh, yes. My plan is draw ALL the cover arts from the Lucasfilm graphics adventures. The next I have in mind is Grim Fandango, my favourite game after MI1 & MI2
