Ready for the solar eclipse? Did you know, in 1999…

…there was a total solar eclipse visible from the central Europe, in particular from Munich.
There is an italian singer, Max Pezzali, who did a song and made its videoclips on that day, August 11st, 1999.
“One Take”, no other chances, no room for errors.

In this videoclip, in particular in the middle, you can see the singer during its performance recording, and the real solar eclipse happening behind him.

Fantastic!!! I now have a new favorite song I must find. The eclipse in the video is made more impressive by knowing that it was recorded “live.”

I’ve never heard of Max Pezzali, but this song reminds me of my favourite music from the 1980s when I was a DJ, Italo Disco. It has that same rhythm and style.

Thanks for sharing it. :+1:

P.S. yes, I’m ready for the eclipse.

I guess he’s very famous only in Italy, maybe even in a few European countries.
He’s a singer since 1992.

I just saw his discography in iTunes. I’ll check out his older stuff as well.

By the way, what’s “883”? The video references it and I found an album with Maz Pezzali & 883. I suppose it is a band, right?

“883” is the name of his band, from 1992 to 2001.
After then, he decided to sing alone, so he kept only his name, Max Pezzali.

The name “883” comes from a Harley Davidson’s model: 883 Sportster. Max Pezzali is a great fan of H.D. bikes.

The first songs (1992-1997) are the most famous (and most beautiful) songs.

Oh, he is my favourite singer

Thanks for that information. I really like his style of singing, and like I said, it reminds me of my favorite music.

Although I don’t speak Italian, I do speak Spanish, so I can understand some or most of the words.

Thanks again for sharing this.

I’m checking out his first album. I can see why he became famous.

So far, “Hanno Ucciso L’uomo Ragno” is purely like my youth: it transports me to my late teens and early 20s when I wad DJ’ing music imported from Spain (Max Music), Italy (Disco Magic), and Germany (ZYX).

Ahhh… :star_struck:

Eheh, it’s one of his three most popular songs! Thanks to that song, he became famous in 1992.
You may be interested in his other 2 most famous songs:

  • Come Mai (=How Come), it’s a ballad
  • Gli anni (=The Years), it’s a sentimental song.

Wow, yes! Lovely songs. Unfortunately, I can’t understand the lyrics, but I can sense the feelings of the songs… they are universal.

P.S… i also saw club remixes of both… doubly good! :+1:

Hey, they’re the people from the Max Mix record series, right? Had a couple of those back in the day, before I decided I was more into rock/meal. Still, played the heck out of those records.

Just looked them up. Apparently the brand’s been reactivated in 2009 and they appear to be doing yearly releases again.

Yes! I have all of the Max Mix, until 11. They recently released a 30 Anniversary Max Mix in two parts: one made by Tony Peret (DJ from Max Mix 3 on), and another by Mike Platinas (DJ in Max Mix 1 and 2).

If you like the classic Max Mix with Italo Disco, i recommend the one from Mike Platinas. It is really brilliant. (Tony Perez seems to have lost a bit of his touch and taste in music…)

Only for you…

They killed Spiderman (Hanno ucciso l'uomo ragno)

The same old scary night in the Bronx
In the club they’re playing a blues by the Stones,
shady characters at bar counter, filled up with whiskey and margaritas.
All of a sudden the door goes “slam”, the one-eyed man comes in with news:
“reliable tip! They whisper that cannons have gone bang!”

They killed Spiderman, nobody knows who did it,
maybe the gangland or the advertising men.
They killed Spiderman, nobody knows why,
maybe he stepped out of line against some coffee industries.

At the police station the commissioner says: "it’s no big deal!
What happened won’t stop us, criminals won’t win!"
But panic has spread out in the streets by now
Nobody leaves home, nobody wants troubles
and nobody trusts in TV-calls for calm anymore.

They killed Spiderman, nobody knows who did it
Maybe the gangland or the advertising men
They killed Spiderman, nobody knows why
maybe he stepped out of line against some coffee industries.

Down in the streets gangs of stressed accountants in double-breasted blazers,
"if I won’t sell you out, you will do that, for a hundred liras or little more!"
Vogue’s faces are legends to us, overly-attractive actors are the only heroes,
instead he was a real star, but he won’t come back.

They killed Spiderman, nobody knows who did it
Maybe the gangland or the advertising men
They killed Spiderman, nobody knows why
maybe he stepped out of line against some coffee industries.

How come (Come mai)

Nights don’t end
at dawn in the streets
I take them home with me
I make melody of them
then I find myself writing
miles of letters
hoping to you here again.

Useless to talk of it
you wouldn’t understand
follow you to dawn and then
see where you are headed
I feel a bit like a child but
I know it will not end with you
the dream of feeling in a movie.

And then suddenly
you came
I don’t know who decided it
you’ve taken myself over ever more
a daily war
with rationality
but it’s ok provided it will work
to take me out.

How come, who are you
to make me stay here
whole nights waiting for you
to wait for you
tell me how come, who are you
to make me stay here
sitted in a room
praying for a yes.

If friend were to know
that it is really me
and to think that they believed
I was almost god-like
Because I never stopped
no useless relationships
killing yourself for love
for whom?

You know, suddenly
you came
I don’t know who decided it
you’ve taken myself over ever more
a daily war
with rationality
but it’s ok provided it will work
to take me out.

How come, who are you
to make me stay here
whole nights waiting for you
to wait for you
tell me how come, who are you
to make me stay here
sitted in a room
praying for a yes.

The Years (Gli anni)

Same story, same place, same bar,
same people that come inside, have a drink and then leave
I don’t know what I’m doing here
I am going out for a while
and I see the car headlights that
look at me and seem to ask me who we are looking for.

The golden years of the great Real
the years of “Happy Days” and "Ralph Malph"
the years of the enormous companies
the years we used to ride the motorciclye always in two.
The years of the beautiful movies
the years of the Roy Rogers as jeans
the years when you did anything you wanted to
the years of "don’t worry, we are here"
we are here…

Same story, same place, same bar
a couple that I know and that may have the same age as mine
how do you do
they greet me
this way I
see the wedding rings on their fingers
God damn, it could have been me a couple of years ago.

The golden years of the great Real
the years of “Happy Days” and "Ralph Malph"
the years of the enormous companies
the years we used to ride the morotcicle always in two
the years of the beautiful movies
the years of the Roy Rogers as jeans
the years when you did anything you wanted to
the years of "don’t worry, we are here"
we are here…

Same story, same place, same bar
they are about to close
then I will go home.
Just her
in front of me.
What do you want?
Time passes for everybody, you know
no one will bring it back, not even us.

The golden years of the great Real
the years of “Happy Days” and "Ralph Malph"
the years of the enormous companies
the years we used to ride the morotcicle always in two
the years of the beautiful movies
the years of the Roy Rogers as jeans
the years when you did anything you wanted to
the years of "don’t worry, we are here"
we are here…
