Noah Falstein mentioned in a Retro Hour interview (27.5.2021) that he’s one of the very few people besides Ron who knew what Ron had in mind when he called it the Secret on Monkey Island.
While I’m psychologically prepared for that, I also hope that Ron takes pity of my thirty-year-long need for closure.
Yes, the discussion, to which degree RtMI will be MI 3a, actually makes no sense at all. Of course it cannot be exactly the same game. Why should we compare RtMI with a myth called MI 3a, that never existed as a game? Well, I guess that most of us here share this point of view.
Admittedly, I have high expectations: I am looking forward to enjoy a new episode from my favorite game series, done by its original creator, whose first two MI games have been awesome. And I expect it to be similarly good.
Though, for me there is no doubt that RtMI will be the best MI game since the 90s. Seeing the persistently high quality of Ron’s previous point & click games, the odds are great that it will satisfy almost everyone who enjoyed the early MI games - even with that different visual style.
I just cannot imagine it to become a disaster.
I wouldn’t even be disappointed if the secret of MI was not going to be disclosed in RtMI, because this was never the reason why I played MI 1 or 2. I just have had great times with these games.
Or Ron developed three different endings and hasn’t told the staff which one is the one he will chose…
Same here. ![]()
I know it’s a joke, but we’re pretty sure given the job description they had on their website ![]()
Otherwise they hired someone with experience in making P&C games and knowledge of AGS, Adventure Creator or a similar engine to make them do action-based gameplay ![]()
This sentence made me curious and I had a look at the timeline for TWP.
The first post in the blog was Jan 1, 2015.
The game got released on March 30, 2017.
So… around two years*. Now my expectations for RMI are very high
*counting that TWP had the engine made from scratch, while I’m pretty sure RMI will be based on the Delores engine
Guga, I made the same statement. And i also considered that TWP was kickstarted from scratch in one month, while RMI has probably a solid budget by its producers, and thus possibly a bigger development team.
I didn’t realize that TWP took just two years of development. For some reason I erroneously remembered three years or so.
That’s good news for me, but I will not fall for the trap and I’ll keep my expectations low. ![]()
also, two years under lockdown count for three ![]()
It will be different as 1&2
It will look different as 1&2 (and all the others)
It will be completelly different from what I imagined all the years.
And that’s fine.
Because it’s, looking at the story, what was missing all the time. And it’s not only from Ron, but from a huge chunk of the old team too.
So yes I expect a lot from it. In Terms of humor, puns, puzzles, characters & the story. I expect I will have a ton of fun with it and that I have to laugh a lot.
I don’t expect that my imagination comes true. Or it to be and look like MI1 or maybe MI2.
And therefore I’m pretty sure I will exactly get what I want and what I expect. ![]()
Two years may not seem much. But they for sure have a big team (at least I think) and they don’t have to manage a blog and don’t have to make podcasts^^
PS: I’m pretty sure that old Monkey Island Fans will be the worst customers becaus of their expecations ![]()
Poll is closed. You choose … wisely.
Dangerous move, he could have faced severe tortures for that!
As your name would suggest ![]()
Yes! Because although lots of fun, the tone of TWP was more sinister (If you forget about the creepy ghosts and voodoo rituals and what not)
I just expect more humour and puns in a MI game than the more sarcastic tone we got inTWP
man now I’m even more exited about the game. That’s an very interesting read.
I came to post the interview too. Amazing interview for the time being.
It’s not exactly MI3a but starts after amusement park (which is a great relief). Somehow other games won’t be invalidated. I hope Guybrush and Elaine are not married like Ron wanted back then.
I can relate and value very much how stressed Ron felt for a new MI game. He knows how it means to so many and does not want to disappoint. The way he says it’s a great pirate adventure makes me happy.
Graphics are a bit disappointing but as long as they will make us feel the atmosphere they will be fine. I understand very well they do not want to be seen as a retro game.
All in the all it’s a great time to be a Monkey Island fan. I cannot wait!
I want to read that the verge article again and again
EDIT. Both interviews are great. Great insights. How big is the team, how did it come to it all this, awesome. Complete creative freedom, Devolver is the publisher and Disney the IP owner. That’s all they are involved.
