Ron declares he is working on a new Monkey Island

You are refering to point and click adventure games?

I kinda hope there won’t be any screenshots with main characters before the game releases.
Imagine the s**t-storm if Guybrush’s haircut would be “wrong”.

First person perspectives are rare in adventures to begin with.

Hmm, not really. There’s a whole sub-genre of first person adventure games (mostly inspired by Myst but the sub-genre certainly predates that game, with titles such as the ones released by HorrorSoft), but like I say, the first person perspective is mainly used as a means to allow the player to project their own personality onto the the main protagonist in such games.

Great idea! I was assuming we’d have the Delores interface, but we can’t be sure. In the interviews, Ron said they experimented more with UIs.

Big question: will the inventory be onscreen?

We should be able to have the answer by studying the aspect ratio of the screenshots.

Those screenshots are perfect for a Switch screen. (16:9)

So, no inventory onscreen

You’re forgetting the perfectly seamlessly integrated hint system, that “makes sense in the ‘fantasy’

What if there’s no inventory, period? I doubt that’s the case but it’s possible that Ron and co have devised an entirely new way of interacting with the world and solving puzzles.

In Delores the inventory is also off/on screen depending where you point. I think it’ll be similar

Ron talked about “streamlining” things, so I wouldn’t be surprised if strong choices were made about how the player interacts with the game.

The fact that Switch was the most lucrative platform for TWP, the fact that the developers of RtMI associated its art style to the concept of “storybook”, the fact that some screenshots make me think of a novel way to interact with the environment… to me all points to an interface quite different from the one used in TWP or other classic adventure games.

Maybe there is no interacting, maybe we just press play, sit back and enjoy the game as it plays out in front of us

Now I get it! Johnny Depp is no more available, so they made a movie with Guybrush instead of Jack Sparrow!

I think it’s unlikely that they innovated the experience in a significant way, because (I believe) to really improve things the interface would have to become more complicated, not simpler. I doubt they’d risk doing that.

Recently, real innovation has been done by tangle tower(det. grimoire) and obra dinn. The key point, in both games, is you need to combine three or more “things” correctly. Combining two is not enough. (Too easy to do by trial and error).

Yeah, that’s crazy. I love the backgrounds from the Chuck Jones Looney Tunes, especially those done by Philip DeGuard.

I’d be happy if the rtmi backgrounds looked anything close to these.

I think it’s time for Ron to reveal some new bit.

Or else we might start trolling again… :smirk_cat:
