I wonder how the ideas from the Delores mini-adventure play into the mechanics of the user interface and how the game will play. It had to have been testing a concept for MI3a, right?
what a fuckin time to be alive
I’ve listened to Murray’s voice multiple times.
Do you think it’s Ron itself who talks?
Years of listening to Ron’s podcasts make me believe it’s really his voice, slightly speeded up.
It just occurred to me they have recreated Melee Island !
I can’t wait to see Melee Island with the new style.
It’s Denny Delk:
It just occurred to me that I have seen this composition before:
The art director of Return To Monkey Island has this on his web page:
The characters might look like this.
The art director of Return To Monkey Island has this on his web page:
He even sketched a very stylized Guybrush years ago.
Argh.
And Ron liked it: https://twitter.com/grumpygamer/status/2517181729
Not the real thing, but nice
Fan Art is coming in already ^^
Either Rex Crowle has previously worked on a game about aliens, or created this image purely for fun, or the new Monkey Island game involves aliens! The word “Venusians” is defined as aliens from the planet Venus.
From the trailer, I don’t understand if it’s 3d or 2d. What do you all think?
Edit: I think it’s 2d…
The wooden walkway deforms when the pirate walks, but that can be done in 2d. The highlight on the walkway looks like it’s painted. The ship and crates are all flat poligons, facing the camera. The characters may be 2d pieces animated with spine.
Ron edited his post from 2013.
“NOTE: Now that Return To Monkey Island has been announced it’s important to note that a lot of my views (but not all) in this post have changed. Don’t take anything in here as more than a historical moment. Quoting anything in here as canon will just led to tears.”
I hope 4, 7,8 and especially 12 and 17 still hold!
11 sounds so cool but I think LucasFilm still owns it so it’s not possible.
They had a 2D artist onboard, so I’d say it’s 2.5D. Which I would prefer.
I agree, mostly for 4, 12, and 17.
Devolver said the game takes place right after LeChuck’s Revenge, so I feel like we can be confident about 12.
I’m just a bit confused because he also said on Twitter that Curse will not go out of canon.
Not sure how he will handle that. Maybe some crazy meta twist, like Guybrush being a little kid for real, imagining different stories? Maybe a multiverse? Maybe Return will be MI2.5, who knows?
Maybe we’re all monkeys, and life is just a dream!
At this point, everything is possible.
Yeah, I was going to make a thread dedicated to that, about what it means that Curse is going to still be canon.
Like doesn’t Murray actually get created in Curse? So how is he in the new game if it’s right after MI2?
And it would also mean all the ending and everything from Curse is the actual ending, etc. no matter what happens in the new game.
Someone on Reddit (their username is [BaronGrackle]) posted this, which I found fascinating:
" I’ve heard a strong argument that, because the MI2 ending does involve a major bending of reality and/or illusion, the sequels would totally still fit as part of that illusion.
- Guybrush is suddenly a kid in the Big Whoop amusement park.
- Guybrush either resists reality or falls further into his mind’s desires, resulting in COMI, EFMI, and TOMI.
- When TOMI is over, guess what? He’s still at the end of MI2. He never left.
Here, it was a mojo article! Still Lost in a Theme Park | The International House of Mojo"
Whatever story / design Ron, Dave, David and others will create, its gonna be great. There is no doubt, and I am sure its gonna be different than everybody expect.
They always created variety of endings, environments, characters and personalities that will never fail and keep us excited and busy for weeks.
Would you be surprised with opened ending again? till it makes Disney happy money-wise, they will allow to make sequels, but the expectations are high.
