Of course! I was just referring to @seguso s statement that the animation (of the trailer) was impressive.
That’s my thinking. I think some of us want to ascribe divinity to the things Ron’s said over the decades but I’d be surprised if even he could make sense of the various (contradictory?) things that he’s stated for so long.
Then again I still figure Hell was the secret. Definitely good enough for me. Gotta do endless things to finally get to an island and then struggle with blood-thirsty* cannibals to gain access to a giant monkey head in order to gain access to some Hellish catacombs? Great secret, and well-hidden.
I actually don’t care if Ron knew what he was doing or not. I think MI2 was great no matter what. I just hope Return will be as good.
I think Simon’s walk cycle is superb
I knew it…
Gilbert: I feel no desire to tie up loose ends unless it serves our new story. It can be more fun to have them dangling out there. Let someone else tie them up in a future game. Why should we have all the fun?
You are reading too much into it I promise.
“loose ends” does not need to refer to the secret.
It is possible that he realized the secret didn’t fit in with their new story, and there was no good way to plug the secret in that story.
But let me remind all of you once again that in Dec 2021, 2 years into development, Ron was tweeting about the Secret . This would have been a cruel and poor taste thing to do, if he had decided the Secret was a “loose end” that wasn’t worth tieing up.
Pretty sure, given the context of the question, that the loose ends being referred to are things like the coda to Tales from Monkey Island (with Morgan and the Voodoo Lady), not the Secret™ itself.
Some things are very exciting to me, though. I like the fact that they don’t want to just create a game like the ones before. It seems like they want to do a game that goes forward while still respecting the past games.
The quote about not tying up loose ends scares me a bit, but like seguso and St_Eddie said, it can be interpreted many ways. So I think we should just wait.
Personally, I mostly wanted them to explain and resolve the amusement park cliffhanger from MI2… and it seems like it will be the case, so I’m happy.
It is sad that Ron said that . We want closure
Proof that Ron wasn’t referring to the Secret:
Gilbert: I feel no desire to tie up loose ends unless it serves our new story. It can be more fun to have them dangling out there. Let someone else tie them up in a future game. Why should we have all the fun?
It would be impossible for someone else to reveal the secret in a future game. Only Ron could (well, unless he is going to tell it to someone else. But he wouldn’t). So he can’t be referring to the secret. He is referring to some other kind of loose ends.
@LowLevel This suggests the secret is not about the island, as we had stipulated. I don’t see how the ending of MI2 can be related to that specific island (Monkey Island) which is only seen in MI1…
But this contradicts the timeline: the idea of the ending of MI2 came long after MI1. Ron said he conceived the secret since the beginning; that he conceived the ending of MI2 much later; and yet, the secret and the ending are related. How is that possible?
Edit: maybe the Island is also a part of the amusement park?
This is also surprising: it means that there are hints in the first two games (or at least one of them) about what the secret is. But where?
I said it in a previous comment, maybe Monkey Island is like a ride that has a height restriction.
Maybe they’re all kids fantasizing about entering that ride, that only Chuckie was able to because he’s older and taller.
Or maybe Chuckie wasn’t tall enough - he just passed through the check, but he wasn’t properly secured due to being too short and that’s how he died.
Ok, but this is not the secret. It is only the connection between the secret and the ending of MI2. It can’t be the secret because the secret was conceived before the amusement park ending. the secret can still be something about the island.
(This is the only way I can reconcile all the interviews Unless Ron is just making things up as he goes)
If the secret is revealed in RtMI, then the real question is how do we avoid spoilers until we’ve played the game ourselves?
I guess I’ll avoid forums, game sites, twitter, etc. until I’ve finished the game…
Also I want to play the game slowly to savour it, but that means I’m more likely to have the secret spoiled randomly during that time.
why would you even be on the internet if RTMI was out?
I won’t read look at anything until I beat the game. It will be tough!
Ron said a few hints about what the Secret is, in preview!
Nah, just kidding
In my opinion, after TWP was released, the users of this forum managed spoilers very well. I remember spoiler tags being used when necessary. There were a few incidents, which were promptly addressed by the users. So, I would consider this forum a safe place to visit while playing RtMI.
I will avoid other places, though, especially Google News, which is the main source of news that I use. Sometimes article titles can be quite spoilery.
I can already imagine those:

You call THAT a secret?
