Maybe this helps someone running into the same issue:
Some days ago, the Windows Steam version suddenly started no longe: after a blank screen was briefly shown, the game closed.
I was able to resolve this by running the Steam client as Administrator and starting the game from there once.
After that, it again started when executed as regular user.
