Where I currently live you can find it in (some) restaurants, or also buy it in the supermarket. I view it like other speciality meat, such as lamb, game or rabbit.

A lot depends on your culture. If you’ve been always told what is food and what isn’t food, it’s difficult to change views… very difficult.
In fact, even if it is now mainstream in Italy, @Sushi sushi still looks disgusting to lots of people. The mere idea of eating raw fish, after a whole life spent eating cooked fish, is unsettling. The first time I tried sushi with my wife we forced ourselves to think “go beyond the fact that it’s raw fish, just focus on the taste”. It was very difficult to overcome that sensation (but now we’re sushi lovers). Same goes for dogs and cats and insects and whatever. I’ve always eaten horse meat and I know people from my hometown who own and love horses but still eat horse meat. But @Someone someone who never ever thought of horses as food might raise an eyebrow.
For this reason we’re trying to teach our daughters that basically everything is food. They’re too young to be biased. If I say them “eat this, it’s raw fish”, they don’t stop to think it’s weird. They’d surely eat insects too, if we did. I mean, kids eat their own boogers and would eat their own poo if adults didn’t teach them not to.

Actually in Germany horse lasagna was a huge success …
… until a TV show reported that there was horse in the lasagna.
