I have very sad news. Last week Nushi rejected some of her kibble, but she was still racing through the hallways with Lexi, jumping on my lap and happily rolling over on the floor when she saw me. Then on Thursday she ate less and on Friday morning she didn’t eat anything at all. A blood sample showed she had acute kidney failure and an extremely low red blood cell count, following which I rushed her over to a clinic in Gent for a blood transfusion. She seemed to be doing better initially, although she wasn’t improving nearly as much as hoped. She received a second blood transfusion, but her body wouldn’t start producing red blood cells. A third could’ve been an option, but chances of success were estimated to be extremely low. We said our goodbyes yesterday. I hope she found some comfort resting her paw and her head on our hands in her final moments.

Here are my final two pictures of her, from last week Tuesday.

Oh nice Nushi, this is sad. Cats know how to be good and discreet companions, and surely she will be missed. It’s often difficult to decide when to stop if previous medical attempts to restore a safe health condition have not been successful. But you and your wife won’t be alone, you have two other cats, right?

I’m sorry to hear that Frenzie. I know she will have had a wonderful life with you :cat: :two_hearts:

Oh, man, so sorry for your loss. Had to give up mine a few years ago under similar circumstances. The local clinic diagnosed him with anemia. Since they were not equipped for blood transfusions, I had to rush him to the nearest clinic in Liège. Not fun, since my French ain’t exactly stellar… He got his transfusion and perked up, but a scan revealed he had tumors on the liver, and nothing could be done. Gave him one last great day while he was feeling better from the transfusion, and had him put to sleep the next day. Took me years before I was ready to accept a new pet in my life.

But finally, I adopted two new rascals recently. They’re about 3 months old and still very much in the “let’s destroy all the hoo-man’s possessions” phase. Corners of the door mats? Check! Curtains? Check! Multimeter leads and cables from appliance chargers? Check! Loose corners on the wallpaper? Oh, you betcha! I don’t remember from my previous kittens how long this phase lasts, but I hope they grow out of it soon or one of these days I’ll wake up in the middle of a giant pile of rubble that used to be my house!

Then again. Kinda hard to stay mad at these little fellas (pics are a couple of weeks old; they’re bigger now):

The clinic here in Antwerp (Borsbeek) couldn’t do blood transfusions either, at least not right now or not that weekend, though time-wise I don’t think it makes quite as much difference as it sounds like. It’s a half hour drive that way while Gent’s nearly an hour-long drive the other.

What name would you give to these cats?
And why Guybrush and LeChuck?

Why not Ron and Dave? They are too cute to be called LeChuck.

Sad today because Olivia is gone. After a nice session of cuddling in the hands of both me and my girlfriend this very morning, she meowed normally like she was hungry and we started go upstairs where her bowl and all the things are. I preceded her, suddenly I heard a thump, I turned and saw her falling on her side on the floor. She coughed for about ten seconds, then opened her eyes, and no longer moved, no breath at all. Just that. I’ve called the vet, she told me to put fingers on her eyes to catch residual reflexes but nothing. She said there’s nothing they could do given the situation, but to verify the death. I’m still a bit shocked by this unexpected event and I’m only relieved that she did not suffer. In July she would have turned fifteen. Goodbye Olivia.

Sorry about Olivia :frowning:

It sounds like she had a happy and long life, which is something to try to focus on when dealing with this grief.

Great name for a cat, though. My family has always named ours silly names. As a kid my mom authorized the following names: Momma Whitey, Baby Whitey and Orangina. It’s anyone’s guess what color those great cats were.
