I only lack “1 year of professional games QA testing experience ” and the job is already taken, too bad…
That aside, the description is one of the best and enticing ones I have ever seen (even when ignoring listing “ Played and enjoyed many point-and-click adventures or narrative-heavy games.” as a bonus ability). And that for such a small company, I wonder who wrote it.
It’s probably better this way. Less external pressure, less build-up of false expectations that might lead to people being disappointed when the game turns out to be slightly different than they hoped it to be, etc.
I would say, it’s the other way around: We know that he is working on a new game. So it must be something great! We are guessing what it could be. We imagine a Monkey Island 3a, Maniac Mansion prequel, etc. So our expectations are constantly rising.
But then we have no “right” to be disappointed, because there was never any announcement in that regard, no “false promise” in any way.
But say there was an early screenshot of the new game (let’s call it Monkey Mansion 3a+). When the game finally comes out, people might be disappointed because in the early screenshot, we had a 9 verbs interface and the cursor had the shape of a banana, but in the finished game, it’s only 8 verbs and the cursor is a pineapple! Pitchforks everywhere.
What we know for sure is that it’s an adventure game, probably developed on top of the redesigned Delores engine - this means it will have verbs - and also probably not pixel art since they needed a Spine animator.
If it’s not related to that game we all know, I just hope it’s a completely new idea.
I think it’s great fun trying to figure out Ron’s next games from incidental communication only!
If the game is voiced, there should be an audition at some time. If it were an open call, we might be able to find it and learn details about the characters. But I’m afraid that’s too much to hope for!
After all, some of us are not least responsible for this secrecy.
Seeing how severely Ron was tired of being overwhelmed by questions, special requests and wrong expectations from our sides, while he was making TWP, I expect him to keep as much as he can under tight wraps, until the official marketing campaign starts.
… if only we knew how long this will take.
Hey, I take something completly new like The Cave anyday over a Monkey Island sequel where Elaine constantly tells Guybrush to shut up and talks about his waning sex drive.
