The A500 Mini comes out 08. April 2022 in Europe

I’ve had 32 GB since 2015. I’m wondering if I should stick with it when I upgrade or if I should go for 64.

The Retro Hour had a chat with the mini Amiga people.

  • They developed a full joystick but never used it
  • The maxi is not definite, will only happen if financially viable
  • If the maxi comes it won’t be a full size replica of the Amiga 500
  • ADF support is coming soon

I had various joysticks.
The two most used were:

I also had one very big joystick. It had a semi-sphere on the left side, and two big buttons on the right side. It had 4 suckers on the bottom, you had to use it on a table.
Can’t find an image of it, it was enormous!

FOUND IT!

It’s perhaps worth noting I had the 2 MB extra RAM in my A500. Well, actually next to it, in the case that also held a 400MB IDE drive. Still amazing how expandable even the “home computer” model was.

That’s the ensemble back in 2008, the last time I booted it.

The one they sell that looks like a Competition Pro with extra fire buttons seems okay, though. I had two of those, and while they were perhaps not as indestructible as advertised, I never managed to snap one in half. The buttons gave out long before the stick would  .

Which would buy you 2.7 Exabytes of RAM these days. Probably more as you’d certainly get a discount  .

The computer to equip with that amount might not come as cheap, though …

Ah, Quick Shot 2 Turbo, I loved that joystick. It was easy to repair, too!

Still undecided if I should get the A500 Mini or not.
I think I probably will.

Yes, you should definitely go for a C64!

Incidentally, the command you’d type when you see this screen

would’ve most likely been just that: “GO 64”

I can’t remember how many joysticks I broke over the years with the C64 and Amiga. Damn you Summer Games. Yes I’m looking at you.
And all the others Winter Games, California Games…

I had some of the above and several others too. I liked the Competition Pro Mini by far the most.

I had the one to the left and to the right. Oh I think I still have both somewhere.

Don’t forget Combat School

There was that Amiga game where you typed the alphabet A to Z and got a time. I was down below 3 seconds. Just saying

I suppose this Amiga USB keyboard would nicely complement the A500 Mini

You know, you’ll have to restart counting down to something waaaaay better than an emulator soon

But the emulator can be used to prepare for that and reply MI1 + 2 in style.

That’s exactly what I’m going to do with my daughter. ^^

Yes that looks cool too. I didn’t know it. And I think it’s a one time oportunity too:

** THIS IS A PRE-ORDER PRODUCT WITH CURRENTLY ONLY 500 UNITS PLANNED.
MINOR IMPROVEMENTS WILL BE MADE BEFORE SHIPPING. WE ARE CURRENTLY STARTING THE MANUFACTURING STAGE. **

But for what I’m doing to expensive.

Edit:
Come on, they even have allready a Mini over there:
