The official jogging thread

With me it’s all about the podcasts. I hate jogging without listening to something that distracts my brain from how boring it is to run on a treadmill. Music doesn’t work either.

Going on long walks is probably better though…

I always feel like I´m alone when walking. And I´m always in the way of all the other activity people.

“Oh sorry you group of biycles to be in your way”
“Oh sorry you group of joggers to be in your way”
“Oh excuse me nordic walkers I did not see you there”
“Sorry don´t mean to block your way nor do I want to play with any of your five dogs!”
“I´m sorry group of segways, what the heck are you even doing on a riverbank?”

Haven’t you several quite and “deserted” forests in Bavaria?

Why yes, lots of them! Reaching them would be enough of a walk already though.

seriously!? ALL posts are about jogging!!! c’mon people get off topic!

You should post that in English.

I skipped last week too, so seeing you’ll run this weekend motivates me to do the same. 5km, slow/average pace.

You could combine both things: just move stuff on foot. Running with boxes filled with heavy stuff. Power training!

Is that Donald “you all live in Tunaholes” Trump?

I also hate jogging/running. But my doctor said I’d risk getting a heart attack with an 80% probability before the age of 65 unless I started to get some regular exercise.
That’s a motivational speech, right there…

I only run a bit faster to get home faster.

And how do you motivate yourself to run a long distance? Do you hear music or podcasts while running (like @yrface)? Or was the motivational speech enough?

I used a build-up training using a “encouraging coach” with music segments - podcast initially. But I got irritated by the awful choice of music and the misplaced encouragments “wow, great! You’re a natural talent!” while I was almost dying and walking for the last 2 minutes to catch my breath again. I also was annoyed by the poor editing of the whole thing, resulting in walking phases being cut short and “c’mon just 1 more minute to run” bits lasting for 3 minutes or so. Once I completed the program, I listened to my own playlists of music, but I went out once without anything and found out that hearing the rhythm of my own breathing worked a lot better to stay in tempo. And not being distracted by music, I let my mind wander and that is more enjoyable too. If you run with headphones you also miss out on stuff like hearing an owl calling.
I once listened to a TWP podcast while running, but I was laughing the whole time, which wasn’t very desirable (aching sides).

By the way, my understanding is that jogging is not good for your knees, that you are much better off running. The human body’s biomechanical systems were designed for running.

Yes, there is a difference: the main one is that in jogging, you land with your heels and maintain an upward posture; while in running, your body is inclined forward and you land with the front of your feet.

Jogging is like really fast walking. Running is better.

(Oh no! perhaps I should have posted this in the “Official running thread”?)

Actually yeah, I usually say I’m ‘going for a run’. But I do it fairly slowly, so maybe that’s jogging. I’m not really upright though.

Hm, I don’t know now

The term running is used for all kinds of paces now. But I enjoyed this article which kind of addresses the question…

Haha, I love Stuart Heritage

I’m a jogger(/runner) too. Just the more stationary kind.

I just happen to be trapped in such torture rack (sample picture):
